The work was done by the, Waterloo Company, which h'ad just com pleted sand blasting operations at the United Church. 30 YEARS AGO MAY 1943 A local committee was formed for the purpose of promoting a °. farm commando brigade in the / Village to help "hoe, hay and harvest" for victory., Rates of pay were set at from 25 cents to 40 cents an hour. 'Volunteers to help on the farms were request- ed to register their names and as well, farmers who required • this type of help were to leave their. names with the committee. George' McLean, reeve of Rip- ley purchased the Commercial Hotel building, which had been vacant since the fall of 1939 when Floyd Strathdee moved to Toronto. Mr. McLean planned to remodel the building and rent for store or office space. 50 YEARS 'AGO• MAY 1923 Sunday and . He .saidthat it might be several years before planning is completed in the south end of Bruce on a county basis and that Lucknow was in need of immediate zoning decisions. Ken Johnstone of Lucknow , driving his late model Fiat,swery edto avoid hitting a dog and struck a 'soft shoulder which caus- ed the'car to overturn in the ditch. The carwas badly dam- aged. Ken was uninjured. Ken Roul ston of Lucknow received a frac - tured collarbone and was kept under observation for several days in Wingham Hospital for a pos- sible spleen injury. Peter Chis- holm of Lucknow was hospitalized for observation but received only minor injuries.
