Ooe Of Nature's Oddities
Ewe's Normal
Gestation Period
Is Cut In.Half
"A very rare occurrence" is
putting it mildly. Most observers
feel that it is an impossibility but
Doug .Miller, son of Mr. and Mrs.
Allan Miller of St. Helens, read
of the same thing happening a
number of years ago at Guelph.
At that time the story received
national prominence in a .farm
paper
The normal gestation period for
sheep is 150 days, but a ewe on
the farm of Allan Miller, 12th •
concession of West Wawanosh,
delivered a lamb on February 1st
and 76 days later,, on Wednesday,
April 18th, . again gave birth this
time to twin lambs.
At the time of the birth of the
twin lambs, the ewe was still
feeding the big lamb,whichthey
irntnediately weaned. At the
time of the second birth, the ewe
provided about half a fresh milk
supply with the other.half dry
from raising the first lamb.
