Be- fore the period ended Havelock took control with three more' goals, to take' the lead 4-3. • The local hockey season came •to a close on Sunday afternoon with LucknOw Juveniles coming within a.-whisker of winning the Ontario Minor Hockey Associa- tion Juvenile "D" championship, the championship they won last year. when they defeated Smith- This,year's series against Havelock, a town on No. 7 High- way about 25 miles east of Peter- borotigh, went a full seven games before a champ was declared, and it was in the final few min- utes before Lucknow could be considered as out of the running. The best four-out-of-seven series started three week ends ago, in Havelock with Lucknow losing `the opening two games there. • Back in Lucknow the • following week end. the local team manag- ed a win and a loss to make the series 3-1 in favour of Havelock; going into last Thursday night's game in•Havelock. WIN IN OVERTIME Down in Havelock on Thursday night of last week the ice was in very poor 'shape. A game misconduct to one of , the Havelock players, who talk- ed back once too often' to the referees, was a, bit of assistance to Lucknow who ended the period . .with the one goal lead, Havelock scored early in the third period `to tie the score and the pressure built on Lucknow • throughout the petiod. The game went into 10 min- utes overtime and Ludknow went ahead 4-3 on kgoal by Stewart Mann managing to con- trol the play well in the overtime. Again Dave Cleland came up with a couple of ganie winning saves, one with just a few sec- onds to go. Ian Montgomery scored two in Havelock with Jim Murray and SteWart, Mann picking up single- tons. • TIE SERIES SATURDAY LucknOw-Juvenile Hockey Club pulled•out,of a do or die situation on Saturday night, of last week in, 'Lucknow 'as they edged by Have. 6-5 and tie the best of seven series at three games each, and thereby forcing a seventh and fin- al game. - The Lucknow team was'. cheered on by a good turnout of fans, some' having to strain to get' glimpses of play in various areas 'of the'rink due to the lack of proper seating, a very frustrating situation that had some of them upset to say the, least. Lucknow started the action very early in.the first period, at the eight second mark, with a goal by Ian Montgomery with Jim Mur- the start of the second period tied the game, only to have Have- lock score by. the 'five Minute . mark to again take the lead 4-3. With Lucknow in the penalty box; Havelock scored again with about 4a minute to play in the second only to have Lucknow bounce right back witha goal • to end the period 5-4, Havelock went ahead 6-4 early in the third period but Lucknow again made .it close, scoring with Havelock in the penalty box, making it 6-5. Lucknow tied it 6-6 with about eight minutes left to play only to have Havelock take a 7-6 "lead one minute later. Havelock made it 8-6 on--a break- away with less than two minntes to play and scored another into the empty net in the final seconds when' Lucknow pulled the goal- tender. Final score was 9-6 for • Havelock. Jim.Murray scored four goals and Stewart Mann and Ian Mont- ' gomery, one each. Breaks Arm In Hockey Game, Visits In Holland LANGSIDE NEWS Bob Moffat had the misfo to break his arm while playing with the Lucknow Juveniles at Havelock against Havelock day evening. We congratulat the Lucknow team on the fine effort in this series. Mr. and Mrs. 'Don Robertson family of LondOn visited Jim fat (iring the week end. • A bus, load of fans' went from Lucimow , as well as many, many car loads of spectators. The attendance at the game was 645. Lucknow fans sat on one side of the auditorium 'ana Have- lock on the other, and the total group would be between one- third and one-half from Lucknow remarkable in the fact that local' fans drove 400 miles return to get to the game. The Peterboro arena, the scene of the(present junior A series, gave fans comfortable ,'seating facilities and the teams fast ice. The game started right on time and the match was over shortly after 6 p.m: Havelock took an early 1-0 lead and were ahead 2-0. by the 5 min- ute mark of the first period. Lucknow scored once before th,e- period was over,with Havelock notchThg a third goal to lead 1 ,11-1 at,the end of the first period. Two quick goals by LucknoW at . In the second:period Lticknow took a commanding lead with three unanswered 'goals. Bob Moffat, assisted by Dave Black; Stewart Mann, assisted by Jim. Murray and Ian Montgomery; and Dale Hunter assisted by Bob Mof- fat and Dave Black. Dale's goal proved to be the winner. Have- lock failed to make the score sheet. The third period provided plen- ty of excitement as Lucknow tried to• hold onto, their, two goal lead and Havelock tried their best to score and tie the game./ Have- lock scored the only goal of the third period. In the final two minutes of the garne Lucknow° picked up a penalty, and Have- lock pulled their goaltender in favour of an extra attacker. This provided some real excitement, but the Lucknow boys • pulled through with' some good defensive work and held on for the final. whistle. ' Lucknow had good goaltending and a fine 'team, effort. There were five penalties assessed to, each team. Seemingly every town .has prob- lems-with fans at onetime or another and Havelock is no excep tion. Some ill-mannered indiV- iduals, and at least one of their players, undertook some stupid antics on the main street follow- ing the game. They apparently were going to tough up anyone in sight.. SUNDAY WRAPS IT UP With Lncknow wins, on Thurs.= day and Saturday, the seventh and cleCiding game of the series was 'played in the Peterborough arena on Sunday afternoon at 4 p.m. ,
