•to a close on Sunday afternoon
with LucknOw Juveniles coming

This,year's series against
Havelock, a town on No. 7 High-
way about 25 miles east of Peter-
borotigh, went a full seven games
before a champ was declared,
and it was in the final few min-
utes before Lucknow could be
considered as out of the running.
The best four-out-of-seven
series started three week ends ago,
in Havelock with Lucknow losing
`the opening two games there.
• Back in Lucknow the • following
week end. the local team manag-
ed a win and a loss to make the
series 3-1 in favour of Havelock;
going into last Thursday night's
game in•Havelock.
WIN IN OVERTIME
Down in Havelock on Thursday
night of last week the ice was in
very poor 'shape. Despite
attempts 'by the Havelock. arena
to hold the ice surface, and water-
ing down by the Havelock fire.
department it was in terrible
• shape for Thursday's game.
Attempts to.scrape it between
periods only worsened the situa-
tion, and a crew of hand scrapers
finally managed to get the ac-
cumulated piles of soft snow if left
by the scraper, off the. Ice sdr-
face.
Despite the ice Conditioni, it
was a. thrilling game to watch
and Lucknow were deserving of
their overtime win.
Dave Cleland ,.in the Lucknow
net , Was _sensational and could
be credited with saving the game
• for Lucknow in the -third period
when the majority of play' was in
the Lucknow end and Havelock
scoring chances were Many.
. • ,
Lucknow took an early. 2-0 lead
Lucknow had to contend with
more penalties in the early part
of the second, but killed them
successfully and then went ahead
3-2.
A game misconduct to one of ,
the Havelock players, who talk-
ed back once too often' to the
referees, was a, bit of assistance
to Lucknow who ended the period .
.with the one goal lead,
Havelock scored early in the
third period `to tie the score and
the pressure built on Lucknow •
throughout the petiod.
The game went into 10 min-
utes overtime and Ludknow
went ahead 4-3 on kgoal by
Stewart Mann managing to con-
trol the play well in the overtime.
Again Dave Cleland came up
with a couple of ganie winning
saves, one with just a few sec-
onds to go.
Ian Montgomery scored two
in Havelock with Jim Murray and
SteWart, Mann picking up single-
tons. •
TIE SERIES SATURDAY
LucknOw-Juvenile Hockey Club
pulled•out,of a do or die situation
on Saturday night, of last week in,
'Lucknow 'as they edged by Have.
6-5 and tie the best of seven
series at three games each, and
thereby forcing a seventh and fin-
al game. -
The Lucknow team was'.
cheered on by a good turnout of
fans, some' having to strain to get'
glimpses of play in various areas
'of the'rink due to the lack of
proper seating, a very frustrating
situation that had some of them
upset to say the, least.
Lucknow started the action very
early in.the first period, at the
eight second mark, with a goal
by Ian Montgomery with Jim Mur-
the start of the second period tied
the game, only to have Have-
lock score by. the 'five Minute .
mark to again take the lead 4-3.
With Lucknow in the penalty box;
Havelock scored again with
about 4a minute to play in the
second only to have Lucknow
bounce right back witha goal •
to end the period 5-4,
Havelock went ahead 6-4 early
in the third period but Lucknow
again made .it close, scoring with
Havelock in the penalty box,
making it 6-5. Lucknow tied it
6-6 with about eight minutes left
to play only to have Havelock
take a 7-6 "lead one minute later.
Havelock made it 8-6 on--a break-
away with less than two minntes
to play and scored another into
the empty net in the final seconds
when' Lucknow pulled the goal-
tender. Final score was 9-6 for •
Havelock.
Jim.Murray scored four goals
and Stewart Mann and Ian Mont- '
gomery, one each.

• A bus, load of fans' went from
Lucimow , as well as many,
many car loads of spectators.
The attendance at the game was
645. Lucknow fans sat on one
side of the auditorium 'ana Have-
lock on the other, and the total
group would be between one-
third and one-half from Lucknow
remarkable in the fact that
local' fans drove 400 miles return
to get to the game.
The Peterboro arena, the scene
of the(present junior A series,
gave fans comfortable ,'seating
facilities and the teams fast
ice. The game started right on
time and the match was over
shortly after 6 p.m:
Havelock took an early 1-0 lead
and were ahead 2-0. by the 5 min-
ute mark of the first period.
Lucknow scored once before th,e-
period was over,with Havelock
notchThg a third goal to lead
1 ,11-1 at,the end of the first period.
Two quick goals by LucknoW at
. In the second:period Lticknow
took a commanding lead with
three unanswered 'goals. Bob
Moffat, assisted by Dave Black;
Stewart Mann, assisted by Jim.
Murray and Ian Montgomery; and
Dale Hunter assisted by Bob Mof-
fat and Dave Black. Dale's goal
proved to be the winner. Have-
lock failed to make the score
sheet.
The third period provided plen-
ty of excitement as Lucknow tried
to• hold onto, their, two goal lead
and Havelock tried their best to
score and tie the game./ Have-
lock scored the only goal of the
third period. In the final two
minutes of the garne Lucknow°
picked up a penalty, and Have-
lock pulled their goaltender in
favour of an extra attacker. This
provided some real excitement,
but the Lucknow boys •
pulled through with' some good
defensive work and held on for
the final. whistle. '
Lucknow had good goaltending
and a fine 'team, effort. There
were five penalties assessed to,
each team.
Seemingly every town .has prob-
lems-with fans at onetime or
another and Havelock is no excep
tion. Some ill-mannered indiV-
iduals, and at least one of their
players, undertook some stupid
antics on the main street follow-
ing the game. They apparently
were going to tough up anyone
in sight..
