happy and enthusiastic group of

for what was presented to them.
Next Ken Taylor showed colour-
ed slides taken at Quarterama 73
in Toronto.
Our work period was taken up,
by the host's presentation, Orig-
in and Development of the
Horse. It' was a long story but
club members got a chance to
juggle such terms as "hyracoth7
f erium",, "eohippus".and "Equus
Przewalski". Perphas two
interesting points that were
brought out concerned the fact
.that (1) mOdern horse's distant
ancestors were North Americans
who disappeared from this contin-
ent in the dim past to return as
modern horse in 1519 when 16
ArKlalusians and Barbs were

English words referring to horses'
and horsemanship also have a
close connection with nobility,
courtley manners, and gentle-
manly behaviour (the- latter two '
sound pretty good still). Even
so, these words have as their root'
not "equus:= hOrse" but "caballus:
nag",
Following .the spiel on "Origins"
Carolyn then gave a pep talk
which we hope reaches the ears
.of all members. A very active
season is being planned, includ-
ing a trail ride last Sunday in
April, 'as well as an excursion
by bus to Bert Bean's Arena at
Carlow on May 1st where we will
all learn something about show-
manship. .
To be as big, even bigger and
better than in 72,' our Club needs
the active support and interest
of all members, so let's all get •
behind it and 'realize our fondest
hopes for the busy season of rides
and shows fast coming upl.
Lisa Gunby announced that she
had requested pen pals by sending '
her name to Junior Horsemen's
Magazine. She has received 60
replies. All boys? I wonder.
The host won the lucky draw. No
wonder, he' drew his own name!
Likely a fix!
Next meeting at Gunby's,
April 17. See you there!
