THE .10.1CKNOW SENTINEL, LIKKNOW, ONTARIO Presbyterian 'VVMS The April meeting of the Aft- ernoon Auxiliary of the W.M.S. of the Lucknow Presbyterian Church met in the Sunday School room of the-Church with an 'attendance of nineteen and two vis , . Mrs. Jas. Smith presided us- ing the Easter programme from !the Glad Tidings. Hymn 400 from the new Book of Praise was • .‘sung and scripture taken from the •Ilth chapter of St. Luke. following hymn "Alas and did "my Saviour Bleed", Mrs. Robt. ,Reid gave a scripture reading and prayer. Mrs. Noble Johnston gave the Easter 'message "Use your gift in God's service" and, spoke of using our talent for God, no mat- ter how small it may be, under His guidance it can be usetill. The Glad Tidings review was given by Mrs. Wm. Porteous! , Mrs. Jas. 'Smith gave the offertory prayer. A verse taken from the Gospel of St.. John was used for roll call. and business was dealt with. Mrs. Smith reported that a pound of . stamps had been sent to the•Lep- rosy Mission. The Synodical meeting is being held in Wingham April the 10th and 11th. The Easter Thankoffering is to be held. in the church on. Tuesday evening April 17th at 8 o'clock, this being theme hundredth birthday of the Luckndw Presbyterian Congrega-._ Lion, an invitation to be present has been extended to, several., W.M.S. groups. Mrs. 'Donald Robertson is to be guest speaker. The president welcomed ladies from. Dungannon to the Lucknow auxiliary. 'Miss' Sadie Johnston gave the closing prayer. Clarence Wybenga' gave the call to worship.. The scripture was read by Steven Irwin and Lori Pur- 'don led in prayer. The offering was received by John Wybenga and Vicki Scott gave the offer- ing prayer. Mrs. Archie Purdon gave the story ', John and Dorothy Help a Poor Man. Mrs. Hugh Simpson gave the stories Harness Your Temper and Touch Those Foxes. • Elecdon of officers followed:. President, Lori Purdon; 1st vice, Stephen Irwin; Treasurer, David Ross; Secretary, Donald de Boer. The roll call was answered with a scriptural verse with word Give by 13. Mrs. Purdon closed the meeting with prayer. Whitechurch pcw WHIT ECHURCHr- NEW S Whitechurch United Church Women held their, ,April meeting on Tuesday, April p at 2 p.m. at the home of Mrs. Russel, Chapman'. Mrs. Garnet Farrier convener of Supply and Social Assistance had charge- of the worship service. She based the worship service on Easter. Mrs. Farrier opened the meeting with the poem have never seen God. /Those taking part in. the - Easter service were Mrs. Farrier, Mrs. Robert Adams and Mrs.. Ben .McClenaghan. The roll call was' answered‘by an attendance of 14 ladies naming their favourite flower and giVing a garden hint. There was one child present. Thank you notes were received from Mrs. Tom Inglis and Mrs. Carl Weber.' 'A letter from Africa was received Stating that the, bale had been received and the use made of it, even the cotton bags in which the articles Were packaged; were used. Mrs. Moore thanked 14rs. Chapman for the use of her warm home for the meeting. The next meeting will be the Thankoffering to be held May '1st at 8:15 p.M. in the church to which men and, women are in- vited as Mrs. Colin Campbell will 'be showing slides and giving a commentary 'on her trip to India . The Spring Thankoffering is April 8; Family Fun night is planned, for Sunday evening April c5. Mrs. John Pritchard gave a re- port on Supply and Welfare and Mrs. Gordon Cayley on Citizen- ship.' Mrs. Gordon Morrison had a report on Social Functions. Mrs. Ackert read an, invitation to Unit 4 to attend an Easter Thankoffer , ing service at Pine River on. April .10. The scripture was read by Mrs. Lloyd Ashton. Mrs. Art Helm ' gave the meditation followed by prayer by Mrs. Gerald Priestap. "Resurrection" was the' poem • read by Mrs. .Tom Andrew. Mrs. Gerald Priestap introduc- ed the filmstrip "Toward Self Help in India" which showed some of the work done by the United Church of. Canada. Mrs. Gordon Cayley ran the projector for the film. Mrs. Alex Andrew read the poem "The Cross is Lifted" follow- ed by the singing of hymn 112, "Rejoice the Lord is King". Mrs. Ernest Ackert Closed the meeting with the benediction. A crossword puzzle on India was played; while the' committee prepared their Indian lunch. Walter Elliott and Mrs. Bill Mac- Pherson took Mrs. Gordon Elliott and Mrs. Robert .Galbraith to Tor-. onto Airport, where they went by, plane to California to visit with their cousin Mrs. Mary McMullin. On Saturday evening the Alley Cats are supplying music for a' wedding reception to be held in Whitechurch Community Memor- ial Hall for Mr. and, Mrs. John Stacey (nee Thelma Purclon). Hymn 191 was sung. Twenty members and one visitor . answered the roll call with an Easter,verse. Mrs. Henderson. asked /for a good attendance at our Easter Thankoffering on April 8th and The Family Night planned for April 15th.; Plans were made for several of our members to ' attend the Easter, Thankoffering at Rine River on April 10th. . Mrs. Nelson Raynard asked 'for donations of good used clothing for supply and welfare. The quilt which the ladies had quilt- ed was displayed and a discussibn followed on a selling price. • Mrs. Raynard Ackert read an article on "A Look At World Development". Mrs. Clarenbe Greer began the program with a verse on peace.' Miss Lena Robinson read the scripture from Luke and gave the Meditation. Mrs. Peter Cook sang a lovely solo. 'Mrs. Walter Dext: had a reading "Easter is the' Answer to the World's Des- pair". Mrs. Garfield MacDonald spoke on education in India.
