Two Fire Calls
On Saturday

on Saturday to West Wawanosh
and Ashfield Townships..
About noon hottr ,..a grass fire'
near the home -of Mr. and Mrs.
Ivan Clark in the village of St.
Helens was brought under control.
Mrs. Clark is, the foriner Shirley
Buchanan and the couple are
now residents of the„St. Helens
area, presently on week ends..
About 2.30 p.m. Saturday, a
second'call'took firemen to the
Riesling farm in Ashfield Town7
ship, located across the 'road
from the Carl Riegli4 home
farm. It is known to many as the
Elmer Johnston place.
A fire had been detected there
early in the day and it was
thought that it had been
extinguished. Checking later '
smoke was noticed coming from
the top of a beard, and firemen
were. suimmoned
Some barn floor was ripped up
and the fire put out.

left Saturday on a 3 1/2 week ..
vacation to Ghana in West Africa
where she will visitt andlravel
'with Mr., and Mrs. `Dan Rose (Ruth
Webb) and, family who have been
residents there for close to two
years.
Dan is on loan from the Univer-
sity of Guelph in an agricultural
assistance program in Ghana. He
had been serving as Agricultural
Representative at Emo in the
Rainy River district of Ontario ‘•
prior to leaving for Africa.
. Mary flew to. London, England
and after ,a few hours stop-over,
caught a' connecting flight to
Actra, Ghana, West Africa.
While there, in company with
the Rose family, they plan to
visit the' West African countries
of Ghana, Togo, Dahomey, Nig-
eria , Niger ,and Upper Volta.
The flight, Toronto to Africa,
was about 17 hours.

Bins Culross Farm
Mr. and Mrs. Bert King, con-
cession 2, Culross, have sold their
127 acre farm to Russell Barr of
Agincourt and he sets posiession
next mortal. Russell is a native
of this area , a son of Mrs. John
Barr of Kinlough.
Bert. has had very poor health
during the past year and spent a
goOd deal of time in hospital
recently.
The Kings' plan to Jive in. Tees-
water and have purchased the
home of the late Mr.. and Mrs.
Bert ThOrnton.

Trip From Illinois
Mrs. Peter Carter of -the 6th of
Kinloss found an interesting item
in a' small tree' near her home on
Monday morning.
It was a balloon which had
been released in Oswego, Illinois
during a promotional campaign
by the Valley Baptist Church
there..
Education Week was' marked at
LucknoW 'Central Public School •
by Open.House on Friday evening.
Parents and friends had a chance
to visit each roorri within the

The barn,. located near the
road, 'was quickly engulfed' in
flames which were fanned by very
high winds.
