the. National Committee for the
Church in Industrial Society.
This Is a prdject sponsored by
various church denominations.
Representatives of the various
churches and organizations in the
community, have been trying to
decide what their chief problems
are in the area. Two concerns
which have been uppermost in
people's minds are •
education at all levels and, ways
to make the later years
pleasant for older. folks.,
Mr. Darjes is trying to help
people of the area look at local
problems, and learn methods of
solving them. As an example, at:'
the third meeting, a group of
people were deeply concerned
abtAlt the possibility of the Inter-
national Harvester franchise being
'terminated with the local agent.
yin order to provide some action, a
task force of three - John
Gamble, Murray Culbert and
Lawd Janies,' - were appointed
and given suggestions on, how to
begin. Within a few, days, the
local agent was approached; Inter-
national Harvester Company also
where 75-80 farmers signed a
etition, The task force commit-
tee „along with Wally Pollock' , •
and Jack Campbell, will meet
with International Harvester in
London. Also, form letters
have been distributed to farmer of
the area. All this activity took
place within a few days. •
CaMeron McAuley has been
chosen as local Co-ordinator,
but the success of these meetings
will depend on those who attend.'
All citizens interested in their
community are welcome to attend
-any meeting.

St. Augustine Parish hall was
taxed to capacity On 'Saturday
evening to honour Gerry and Cath
erine Van Aaken and family prior
to theft:. departure to the Bayfield
area.
Progressive euchre was enjoyed
by, many with high lady Mrs. Joe
Finleon, consolation Judy Robin
son; high man Michael Rody, con-
solation John Franken. A. child
with 'the closest brithday to the
1st of April was a tie between
Frank,Van Aaken and Janice Rob-
inson with Frank winning.

Catherine and family to come for •

Dear Neighbours:
The robins have returned and *.
each mOrnillg their songs bring ,
joy to us because 'we realize
spring is near. .
This evening we are assembled
here and it should be a time of
great joy but there is a feeling of
sadness in the hearts and minds
of us all. We feel this Way be-
cause.Gerry and Catherine Van
Aaken and family 'are leaving our.
community.
It is riot because yon liv'ed 'in
the community for a number of
year that will make us Miss you
so much Catherine and Gerry. It
is the love, interest and co-oper-
ation you' have manifested tit).

community. Your leaving us
will leave a vacancy in our hearts
and minds that neither time nor
distance will ever erase.
We realize that our' loss is
someone else's gain. This
should console us but we have
to admit that our loss is upper-
most in our minds.

OPEN AREA
On Tuesday, March 27, Grades
1, 2, 3 and 4 went to a sugar
bush at Mr. Anstett's farm near
Glamis. Everyone had fun (even
the' teachers), thanks to' Mr. An-
stett.
GRADE 5 '
Are getting.a play ready to use
with the•TV equipment that arriv-
ed this week.
GRADE 6
Bop, have made teams of floor
hockey in the'gyni „with Freddy
Howald and Allan Stanley as
captains. For the TV, they are
going to march and play their
recorders with Mrs.. Mc Murray
leading them.
.GRADES 6/7
Are going to the Science Centre
in•Toronto on May 10th.
GRADES 7/8
Are pUtting on a play in-History
(like Front. Page Challenge).
GRADE 8
Have their interest centred on
a play - "The Fugitive From
Rules" and on newspaper ads.
