PAGIII .IFIFT.40.14,
The snow blizzard of Sunday ,
March 24,, 1940, which was rec-
ently 'mentioned by this reporter is
vividly recalled by Nelson •
Hodgini. On that date was the
funeral of the late Dan B. Mac-
Leod, hardware' merchant in Rip-
ley. Nels helped his father, the
iate George Hodgins; dig the
grave 'in the Ripley cemetery
which was covered with' snow, to,
the depth of eight feet. As a re-
sult - after digging through the
snow with hand shovels a place
had 'to .be dug 'also to. place earth.
Steps. were dug dOwn the snow
wall to reach the top of the graye.
It is rather hard to think that there
would be a depth of fourteen feet
to the bottom'. 'And the work
all dorie by hand was done in a
cold blizzard of swirling snow.
