HURON COUNTY SCHOOL NEWS

' A short -term Education Leave
has been granted to both George •
Gibson and Daniel Webster, teach
ers at.F. E. •Madill Secondary '•
School'for the year 1973-74. Mr.
Gibson will teach while mr. Web-
ster attends University. of Guelph
from September to December
1973. Mr. Nebster will teach
while George Gibson attends the
same university, from'January to
April 1974. Then George gib,
son will resume teaching while
Mr. Webster attends Graduate •
School at Guelph from May
through June and the Summer. In
addition to salary' and benefits for
.the period, a grant of $1,200 has
been made to cover-cost of equip
ment which will be used later in
the school programme. The pur-
pose of the Education Leave Plan
is to grant employees a leave for
the purpose of study, research or
up-dating of specialized know.,
ledge. A selection committee
consisting of 4 teachers, 2super-
intendents and 2 board members
granted only 3 teachers in the
County. an EduCation Leave for
the year 1973-14. To be eligible
for participation in this Educa-
tion Leave Plan (Short-term) a
teacher shall have a minimum' of
consecutive years teaching
experience and must continue to
teach" for a period of not less that
twice' the length of the leave:
There have been enquiries con-
cerning elementary students from
Huron' Township who are attend-
ing Brookside and Noith Ashfield
as to where they will be attend-
ing school next, fall. These stud-
ents reside on the north, side Of
#86, highway (in.the former Union
Schools of Paramount and Lcch ,
alsh). At' the present time there
are 11 students attending Srook-
side PubliC School• and 11 in North
Ashfield from Huron Township. ,
At the same time, there are 10
students attending Lncknow
School• and 11 pupils, enrolled
at Hillcrest Public School, Tees-
water, , from Huron County.
SchOol boundaries cannot change
unless mutually agreed upon by
both boards (Huron and Bruce).
In a conversation last week with
the Director of 'Education from
Huron county he would. advise
no change in boundaries at the
present time' and that students
would continue to' attendthe_____.
schoOls which they attended in

istration offices for the Board of

have children attending kindergar-

of letting them remain at Brook- ,
side or return to Grade 1 'at
North Ashfield next Septernber.
A policy statement made last
year has made it possible for stud -
ents,to attend other than their
designated sehool, if ,parents re ,
quest in writing to the Director
fOr their child or children to
attend another school in the area ,
of there is no increase in cost to,
the Board for transportation'. This
policy originally involved stud-
ents who live near Seaforth but
!hack to attend. Huron Centennial
at Brucefield'. Now thay have the
.option to attend either school.
In the same way students attend-
ing North Ashfield could attend
Brookside if, they 'so desired..
Ontario Scholarship winners
will be awarded $100 each this
year (Grade 13 students with an
average •Of 80 per cent or better)
following re-instituting of the
monetary award by. the Ontario
Government. There are sever-
al conditions which apply to the
award to a itudent, awarded a
secondary school Honour Gradua-
tion Diploma, who has obtained
an aggregate of at least 480
marks in any approved Honour
Graduation level courses having a
total value of six credits.
