WHITE STORE
the late"Dr. Ar A. J. Simpson
and Mrs. Flora Simpson, is this
week being dismantled by Robert
Simpson and other members of •
the family. Since the •
building was very' close, to, the
highway, it was thought 'advis-
able to dismantle it rather than .
repair the old building.
•
Oldest history to be found on
the building was when it was
Whitty's General Store. It con-
tained the bank and a post office.'
Mr. Whitty was postmaster until
1910 when Neil MacDonald:was
:appointed to the position. The
post office was then moved to
MacDonald's Hotel and Neil's
store, and Whitty's estate-then
sold the building to Dr. Simpson
for an office and residence. Here
Dr. Simpson practised medicine .
until his death'in 1941. The farn-
'ay continued to use the building
until the death of Arthur Simp-
son in 1970. •
Many Kintail residents still
remember his flourishing devot-
ed practise. He knew all the
. rigors attendant upon the life of a
country doctor, in• the early days'
before motor cars or telephones
were in existence When it was
necessary to' make long trips with
a horse and cutter or buggy, on
stormy or, dark nights. Many
. times he remained with a pat-
ient all night performing the
duties of both, physician 'and
nurse; an unfailing friend of old
and young, rich And poor. The
tearing down of the old building
will be like closing a chapter of
the past ta the residents of Kin-
tail. Dr.. Simpson's office tab-
le satchel, etc.. will'be offered
to the County Museum in Goder,-
ich.
