SCHOOL NEWS
As explained in the letter received, and in last week's Sent-
inel, the new method of Jassessment will be at "Market Value", (what the
assessor believes the property would sell at on the open market)
Because all assessments have been increased to market value, a cor-
responding decrease will result in the mill rate in the village.
As a comparison, we have attempted "to- Calculate as closely as possible
what taxpayers would have paid in 1972, had the market value assessment
been in effect.

SENIOR END SKATING PARTY:

On February 14, the Senior End
of the School had their skating
party 'at the Ripley Arena. The
games were led by the cornmit-
tee. We first, had the
races. 'In the girls' race, Connie
Irwin was our champion and. in tine
boys' race, Robert Regier won the
championship, After that. we
played'dodge ball, then we had a
partner raining game. After that
the snack bar opened and there
was a mad rush for the coats to
get money. Later we had a game
of hot potato and then another
round of skating, before ping
back to school.

Died In 89th Year:
THOMAS HENRY GARDNER
A. link with.the past ,was sever-
ed Monday, February 12 when
Thomas Henry Gardner of the
Zion' community in Ashfield Town
ship 'passed away in Huronview
Nuriing Home, Clinton in his
89th year.
Henry ,'as he,was known to those
around Lucknow , suffered a stroke.
in 1968 but prior to this illness
had lived his entire life in Ash-.
field Township, Lot 10, Conces-
sion 12_and was the third genera-
tion on the farm obtained from
the Crown by his grandparents
Waliarn Gardner and Sara Gray-
don in 1864. ' '
He was predeceased by his
father John R. Gardner and mother
Matilda Lane,, also four Sisters
Mary Anne, Katherine, Sara,
Alice and three brothers Will,.
Jack and 'Ritchard Gardner. Left
to mourn his passing are his wife,
the former Ellen Hunter, and one
sone Lane, both of Ashfield.
Funeral services were held from
MicKenzie Memorial Chapel on
Thursday, February 15th at 2•.30
p.m. withRev: Kenneth Rooney
of Ashfield-Ripley Presbyterian
Church officiating. Mrs. T.
Pritchard prpsided at the organ

and Chester Hackett.
Friends and relatives gathered
at Lucknow Anglican Church Par-
ish Hall after the funeral servipes

,our school started the play-offs
a • few weeksago. Laurie Calling's •
team and Mary Ann thrhamel's
team were the first two teams to.
play. Laurie's team was put out
when Mary Ann's team, won tWo
lout of three sets.. - The next two
'teams toplay were Janice Far-
rell's team and Jane Ann Colling's
team.. Janice's team was put .
out when Jane Ann's team •won
two out of three sets. The next
two teams to play were Pauline
Lowry's team and Lou Ann Duh- •
amers team. Pauline's team
was put out when Lou Ann's team
won two out of three sets. We
had three•teams left 'in the finals

Ann's team would play Jane Ann's
team. Jane Ann's team won two

GRADE FIVE:
On Thursday, February 15th,
our Grade. Five class received New
Testaments. They were present-
ed to eOpupil by a representa-
tive of. T Gideons International.
He outlined some interesting in-
stances where the testaments had
been presented in other countries.
We plan to use them in daily
devotions.
