Call to order was given by President Carolyn Taylor, followed by introduction' of guests and good news from club members; then a tale of Carolyn's high-dive over the side of Checo (KenS) horse, too bad Carolyn, happens to.the best of us'. Terry Taylor gave a paper on the Royal Lipizzan Horses, .which won her first prize at Brookside School in the Public Speaking Contest. Ken Taylor told about the Quarterama Horse Show to be held in Toronto on Sunday, - - March 4th and hoped as many . members as possible will attend. Mt. Gorrie of Wingham was a guest of the evening and as usual his film and narrative were both interesting and informative to the club and were much enjoyed. Mr. Gorrie's topic was the nutri- tional requirement of Foals and, the similarity of children and foals in regard 'to requirements. Nothing in life that gets a good start ever gets over it and the opposite also applies., A foal consumes,from three• to five gal . ions elmilk a day, and a mare ,.. Will produce up to two tons of milk from birth pf the foal to up to three or four months.. The main items of requirements for the foal are energy, protein, nutrients and minerals. Mr. Gor- tie also urged the club to attend the seminar at Guelph On March , 27th as this will be of much ,value in regard to care of horses. Janice Londry won a bag of Bigun Feed for foals. Door prize (a' tie rope) was won by Bob Sheppard. 'Happy Birth-' day and good wishes to Danny Londry. Next meeting will be at' the home of ,Nina and Birnie Silverstone on 'February the 20th. Winter ',Olympics were held at the University of Western Ontario in London. This event was siorisored by the Faculty of Physical Education of the Univer- sity. The Huron County contingent• of staff and pupils went' by bits and consisted of R. B. Allan, Assist- ant SUperintendent of the Huron County Board of Education, Clinton; 6 piirls and 3 teachers from the Goluen Circle School, Wingham; 10, pupils and 5 teachers from • the Queen Eliza , Beth Sdhool, Goderich; and 3 pupils and 2 teachers from, the Huron Hope School, Centralia. " On arrival each pupil was assign a student of the Faculty of Physical Education as a chaperone for the entire day, leaving the staff members from the various schools involved in over-all super- vision. The Special Winter Olympics opened at 9.30 a.m. at the J. W. Little Stadium when 'the Special Olympic flag was raised. The song "Hey', Look Us Over" was lustily sung by all in attend- ance and led by a pupil from the St. Thomas School. Dr. D. C. Williams, President of the U. W. : O. gave:the welcoming address. The Golden 'circle School ex- celled in the skating.area. Aliry Morningstar came second in the Senior males, Level A; Verner Caswell, third in Semi& males, Level C; Michael Zimmerman, second- in the Junior boys Level A; Steve Millen came first and Mark Albert third in the 'Junior boys Level B Darell Zimmer - man also participated. Professor Conrad Milne, Chair- man of this Special Winter Olym- pics said ,he hoped this will be- come an annual event.
