The Lucknow Branch •of the
Bank of Montreal will commence
business at their new location on
Lacknow's main street next Mon-
day, February 12th. Open house
will be held at the new building,
thfs Saturday, February 10th,
from 2 tg 4.30 p.m.
Bank. manager Allan Johnson
and his staff have extended an
invitation to.all area residents
to visit the new bank this Satur-
day. Reeve George Joynt of •Luck-
, now will cut the ribbon officially
opening the new'branch. Roses

lady visitors.

A number of years ago' a major
fire, destroyed several places of
business from Sanderson's Ladies'
and Men's Wear east to Limbach
Pharmacy, but not including' these
two buildings. One of the busi-
nesses destroyed was Webster and
MacKinnon Hardware who rebuilt
,on the site. The business is now
operated by Ron Machan. Bank
of Montreal purchased the•remain•
ing land' and for some years it
remained unused awaiting the
authorization to proceed with the
new bank building.
The site also becanie famous
for itiboard fence and many
painted slogans on the fence. ,
One of these, in support of Tani
Henderson, attained national
prominence.
But the board fence is gone,
and Lucknow• 'now has, a modern
new „bank building on the, site.
The first branch in Lucknow
was opened in November 15,,1905,
over. 67 years ago and has operat-
ed in'the same building,and at the
same location for all these years,
the former premises of G. A.
Siddail, 'a private banker.
The Bank of Montreal was
originally a branch of the Mol-
son's Bank which merged with the
Bank of Montreal in 1925.
At the time Of the, formation
of the.bank branch -here, the vil-
lagewal, going through an un-
happy phase in its• history. Some
'of the dow-n town area was in,
ruins following a major fire which
had wiped out the Malcolm
Campbell Block. Reconstruction
of the fire ravaged area was done
in 1906'. ,
Although the bank has been
located in the same site since -
first establishing here., many
