The following history was con-
tributed by Mrs. Earl (Lillian)
Howes, of R. R. 3"Goderich.
The 1948' hundredth anniversary
book of Ashfield Presbyterian
• Church states:
"A meeting of. Presbyterians
held in the old log sc o1 near
Kintail in 1850"..
'Mrs: Howes believes,this old
log school was down "Garvey's
Road" near• the lake on what is
now the Bill,Collinson farm. Jack
Mackenzie , (1854-1938), Lillian's
uncle, attended classes there.
The next school "Wa".g built just •
west of the present •building. Pa'rt
of that, building now forms the
north end of the barn on the fatm
of Earl Howes. ' , •
Mrs. Margaret MacLennan 'of
Chicago is considered to be the ,
oldest living person who was a
ptipil at Kintail School, S. 5. No,
3 Ashfield. 'Formerly Margaret
Clark, she attended classes at the
second-,oldest school building, '
the frame building that stood On
,the site of the present brick struc-
ture, , •
While going 'to Kintail school,
She stayed four years at the*home
