GRADE TWO
• Back to school again!. We all
enjoyed our holidays but
are ha y to be back with our
ds.
Jackie Irwin had Chicken7pox
over the holidayi and has not re-
turned to our classroom this week.
Kenny Elliott had the Misfortune
to burn his arm and hand last
week.. He has it, dressed at the
hospital each week. "Be careful
when around boiling }water."
CONCERT' by Heather• Boyle
On Tuesday and' Wednesday,
December 19 and'20the Ripley ,
'Public School pnt on a Christmas..
Concert. The grade one's were
first on the agenda for the night.
They sang two songs, Jingle Bells
and When I. Was a Baby.,. Next
Were the Kindergarten class.
They portrayed the story: of Little ,
Red Riding Hood. The grade twos "I
had a play entitled Santa Goes on
Strike. The grade threes put on • I
a play called The. Missing Doll.
The grade fours and five put
on the,play King Cole's Court.
The grade fours put it' on, Tuesday
and the grade fives put it on Wed
nesday. 'The grade six class did a
tumbling act. The grade, sevens
assembled themtelves as, a' Christ-
mas Tree and sang Shine• Little
Christmas Tree and 0 Christmas
Tree., The grade Seven Eight .
clasi put on the play' "The Little
Red Schoolhouse". The grade •
eights then sang two songs, As
Lately We. Watched, and Have
Yourself a Merry Little
Christmas. I would like to con-
gratulate the teachers and even
the students for organizing such a
good concert. Pm •

Before the-Christmas Break on.
December 22, Mr. Armstrong's
grade seven-eight class hid a
party. It began at 11 o'clock
with the eating of Kentucky ,Fried
Chicken. Mrs.. L. Tusz'r the
chicken' for us from. Kincardine l,
The people in the
class brought salads, cooties,
and candies. We had pop to go
with our diriner. After the dinner
we opened gifts. Our class then
organized a dance in the gym for
the senior end• of the school. We
all sincerely hope they enjoyed
themselves.- I know -we all, did. !

On Thqrsday, December 14 the
pupils of grade eight in room*
eleven under the direction of their
teacher Mrs. Anderson, 'held a
candy sale. Early in the week
,girls brought home made candy
and •the boys each gave 250
towards buying candy. The girls'
made up the bags and the boys
sold them. Everyone was given
a chance to buy a bag at 100 ,
each and they made a profit of"
$24.00, which was given to our

On Friday, December 22, we
were disMissed from school
classes for our -Christmas Holi-
days. We-were away for eight..
schoolflays. 'We hope Santa
Claus was as good to you as he
was to us. Hope you also had i
Happy New Year.. But soon after
New Year's day our holidays
came to an end, now it's back to
hard work.
CHRISTMAS. CONCERT
On December 21st we held-our
Christmas concert. Taking part
in the concert' were rooms
1, 2, 4; 5, 6, 11 and 12. The
Grade one's from• Mrs. Wilson's
room presented an• Indian num-'
ber with songs and dances. The
grade 2's, Miss Norman't room \
presented a play called "The
Boy" and "The Billy Goats Three",
with singing, followed by a song
called "Are My Ears on Straight?"
Roarn.4, grades 3 and 4.present
ed the story by Dr. Seuss called
"The Foot Book" which was read
by Kelly. Noble. As they walked
across the stage' all you could see
were feet of,different "shapes,
sizes and colour. Room 2„ -grades
4 and (5 from Miss Scholl's room
presented a couple of Christmas
`songs called "Jingle Bell' Rock"
and "Christmas Chopsticks".
Room 2 performed a play 'called
"How The Gririch Stole Christ,
rnas". The main characters were
story teller, Theresa Taylor;
Grinch, Danny Martin; Dog
(Max).,. Alan Rivett; Mouse, Greg
I Wilson; Cindy Lou Who, Debra
Arnold. Room 6, grade 6 per-
foimecr a play called "Christmas
Around the World" which took •,
Santa's house. As each
one arri ved bringing gifts from
different parts of the world they
sang songs. The last presenta-
tion of the night, included Modem;
and Falk songs: The' songs were .
black and white which was high-
lighted by silhouette dancing.
The dancers were Margaret' Mac-
Pherson and Debbie Schulti. The
other songs were ,"500 Miles, If I
had a Hammer, 'No Hidin' .Place
and Go Tell It On The. Mountain".
We 'closed with "0 Canada".
SANTA'CLAUS COMES TO'
SCHOOL
The. highlight on Friday for the
Junior wing was Santa Claus com-
ing and giving out gifts. The
teachers supplied the gifts for each
room and. Santa gave them out. ,
Also on Friday we had a series
of films called "The Vanishing
Prairie" by Walt Disney.

all Queen Street (Preston) Cam-
:bridge , Ontario, occurred in
South Waterloo Mernorial Hospit-
al,' Galt on. December '27th in
his' 87th year., -
Hews born Alresford,, Eng
land ori'October 1q, 1886, a son
of Frederick. John Hockley 'and
Emmette NOrgate.
On March 30, 1912 he married
Gertrude Emily ,Tanner in Eng-
gland.
'Mr. and Mrs. Hockley faimed
'near Langside for' 30 years before
moving to Preston where they
have since resided. They cele-.*
brated their 60th wedding anniv-
ersary with• a family gathering on.
March 30, 1972.
Betides his wife, Mr. Hockley
is survived by three daughters '

Preston. Rev. Skirver was minis-
ter.

We are back from our holidays
and Santa was: very good to every-
one. Paultkeelin moved: to
Guelph. Our class was, very sorry
to see him go. Jeff Brooks hurt
his arm during the holidays. He

SKATING .
On Tudsclay, December 12 the
senior grades went skating. At
1.45 they boarded four blises and'
left for the arena The skating
was for a whole hour after. which
the pupils returned to the school'
to board their.regular buses to go
frame. Mrs. Graham supervised
those %who did not go; On Friday
the junior grades went skating.
A good time was'had by, all.
-COLD •MORNING
On Tuesday morning when we
arrived at school the' heat was
off. The classroom doors were
kept closed until after eleven
when the heat, was working again.

Lila Emerson of the 12th conces-
sion,. West Wawanosh -Township,
passed away at.Wingham and
'District Hospital on'Thursday,
January 4.
She was born on the farm,.
where she has" since resided , on •
September 14, 1897, the daughter
of the late 'Alexander and Mary
Jane Emerson. She attended pub-
lic school at.S. S. No.-14 West
-Wawanosh and also Wingham High.
School, and was a member of
Chalrner's Presbyterian Church 'and
an-active. Member of the Women's
Missionary Society. A.
She is survived by Eldon Erner-
• son of St. Catharines ,and a
brother,Victor of Whitechurch.
Also surviving are three grand-
children: .
The, was predeceased by, her'
parents Mr. and Mrs. Emer-
son ; brothers James and Alfred
and-sister. Mrs. Maud Haggitt.
The late Lila Emerson rested
at the Robert MacKenzie Funeral .
Home until Saturday at 2 p,; m.
when Rev. Victor Wybenga Con-
ducted.the service.
Tetnporary entombment was at
South Kinloss Mausoleum with
final resting place Greenhill
Cemetery.
