I didn't expect to be writing an
article again so soon. If it .looked
as if everyone were reluctant to
express an opinion on the history
option problem what I thought I
might do was write to Colin Croz-
ier of liamilton and have him •
prevail on one of his friends in
the teaching profession to write
about it. The reason I'm writing
now is because I became disturb-
ed with some of the statistics and
statements that were published
during the recent Federal election
campaign.
As ,an introduction to the
bilingual problem I would like to
explain that for years I have work•
ed with ernployees with last
names such as Desrosiers, Clout-
ier, St. Jean, Hebert and Paqu-
ette. All of these employees
could speak, without' difficulty
.iii_either French-or-English:, -I--
have a good deal of admiration
for the French-Canadians for
I. The pride they have in the
Montreal .Canadien Hockey team.
2. The success they made of
Expo 67.
:t. The outstanding support they
.are..giving to their major league
baseball team. • •
4. Their.enterprise in planning to.
host the Summer Olympic Games.

making sure that our students
acquire and retain a good under-
standingas, to the major role the
• western world has played tile

world. Anyone-Who tries to•getl
information on whether or not
world history. is being taught

the conclusion that.this,important
problem' is 'being neglected . In
fact, Concerning the problem of
better understanding among the
peoples. of the world, the Ontario
Department of Education has tak-
en the inexplicable stand that
students do not even need to
bother with the subject of history.
It is simply, a question of Prime
Nlinister.Trudeau not putting
first:things first. Among non-
bread and butter issues a much
more important problem than
