Kinloss Ratepayers Meeting
Provides Interesting Facts

November 7 at 7.30 starting with
a bountiful supper served by St.
Helens WorneWs Institute which
was much enjoyed by all.
Following are the election of
officers for the coming year,

appointed chairman of the rate-
payers meeting held at the
Township Hall at Holyrood rec-
ently which was attended by
about 35.
Mr. MacKinnon explained, the
'new nomination and election
procedure and called 'on the pres-
ent members of council to report
on municipal affairs.
Reeve Orville Elliott expressed
thanks to members.of council and
municipal officiaLs, as did all
other members Of council when
they spoke, for their support and
co-operation through the year. 1.-Ie
said he had enjoyed his three years
as Reeve and five year's on Coun-
cil prior to' the, Reeveship and that
he would be standing-again for the
office of Reeve.
Mr. Elliott said that recent
provincial legislation states that
any' municipality with over 1000
voters will. be_eligible to have.
a Deputy-Reeve. This would •
mean greater representation in
county council, and Mr. Elliott
said that at the same time, the
province is also. telling county
councils to streamline their opera-
tions and trim the number of rep-
resentativicoiTtlieCOunty—gciirTerri-
ment. In attempting to abide

Bruce County Council recently

were 300 miles of road in the'
county of Bruce ; 240 paved
and 60 gravel. The road budget
this year is $1,350,000. .50

the start of the rebuilding of the
county road north from Lucknow

Speaking on the County Homes
for the Aged, he said that a 92
bed unit was built in 1961 and a
66 bed addition was built this
year at a cost of $620,000. This
in Brucelea Haven at Walkerton
where they presently have a wait-
ing list of 12 men and 2$. women.
A 96 bed unit, Gateway .Haven
at Wiarton, has a ,waiting list of
4 men and, U women.; The' bud-
get for the county blot-ries for •one
year is $650 ,0-00 of it filth the
county share is $98,000,
Mr. Elliott was chairman of ,the
county agricultural committee.
He mentioned that the 1976 Inter-
national Plowing Match will be
in Bruce County for the first
time atsa site not yet determined.
