Speaking at the Lucknow Rate-
payers Meeting, Reeve George
Joynt had some critical remarks
about the present assessment sys-
tem in Bruce County which is now
under the control of the regional
assessment office, working under
the provincial government.
Citing several examples of
properties, built in the last half
dozen years, o.f which Reeve
Joynt was aware of the contract
price, he found that the new
Lucknow Village Council rec -
ently received 'a letter from the
West Wawanosh Township Council
regarding the fire service:agree-
ment with the village.
The letter from West Wawa-
nosh re2...;
"L..s.lc_now Fire Department, in
att:mpting to provide protection'
is5istance for Township fires,
141 become ibst and are unable,
v, it Lout 'seemingly great difficulty,
to locate the scene of fires.
Council 'unanimously agreed
members of the Fire Department
should make every effort to bet-
ter acquaint themselves with the
rural area Which they serve.
Each Fire. Department Member
should 'be familiar with lot nurn-
bers•and concessions of the town-
ships served as well as the names
of the residents.
Lot and concession given at the
time of the call should 'be suffic-
'ent-information-to=bring,the-Fire-
Department.to the correct loca-
tion provided the members' have
studied the area and are familiar'
with it.
Your attention 'to these details
should provide more efficient fire,
protection to' the rural areas serv-
ed by the department and 'also
provide rural residents with a
better sense of security from des-
truction, by fire".
Reeve George Joynt, at a rec-
ent-Mt-et ing of the-area tovnship-
councils had suggested -to the
rural municipalities .that if they
felt there was foofn for improve-
ment in locating township fires,
that it would be in the .
interest of the ratepayers in these
muhicipalities that the councils
provide' Lucknow Fire Department
with a detailed map o.f the fire
area, showing lots, concessions
and names of owners or tenants..
ReeVe Joynt also stated "that this
would 'soon be butdated and use-
less unless the township regularly
provided the fire department
a list of new residents.as proper-
ties changed hands.
'In renewing her Sentinel sub-
_scription Miss' Olive Blake of
London writes that her mother,
Mrs. Thomas. Blake, is still in
Parkwood Hospital but' is able to
be up and taking therapy. Mrs.
Blake will be 91 years of age on

Reeves at home from county
council. This goes along with the
provincial opinion that county
council has to be streamlined.
Mr. -Joynt said, "We're
staying clear of Grey County in
any alliance, we don't feel like
giving Bruce away. Bruce was
always first with county assess-
ment ;county welfare, county
library and county health unit".
"Regional government might be
OK in the Ritche-ner-area-i -but - --
it's not for us. Lucknow has more
in common with Huron County
than with Grey County" was the
comment of the Lucknow Reeve.
