REMEMBRANCE DA/. ASSEMBLY
On Wednesday, November 8,
the students and staflof R. D. H.S.
observed Remembrance Day in
an assembly that was staged by the
History 551 class and their history
teacher Mrs. Jim •Needham. Those
taking part were chairman Jim
Farrell and Gayle Huston, Susan
Brooks, Marg Chester, ,w.janet
Ritchie, Debbie Corrin, Margaret
MacKay and Joan Ferguson. The
Assembly was opened with the
singing of "0 Canada" followed by
two minutes of silence. The
poem "In Flanders Field", was read
by Gayle Huston, Janet Ritchie -
And. Siisan...Brooks.. This was, writ
ten by Colonel John McRae and
is popular throughout the world.
The film "Beyond The Beach" was
then shown to the assembly. It
made us certainly respect those
brave men who-fought- and-died-
so that we could enjoy the various
liberties in ourcountry today. •
"Faith of Our Fathers!" was then
sung, followed by God .Save the
Queen. Providing the music
were Margaret MacKay and Joan
Ferguson while Debbie-Corrin and
Marg•Chester dittributed the pro-
grams and.the poppies. • "
INTRAMURAL VOLLEYBALL
Intramural' volleyball commen-
ced at RDHS this past week under
the surveillance of physical edu-i-
cation instrtictdr. Ed Brown. Sik
girls'• teams and six boys' teams
make up the roster. Captains oD
these teams are Maly Needham,
Shirley McCreath, Joan Ferguson,
Sally Harrison, Sally Elliott and
Kathy FaTiell for the girls and -
Barry MacDonald, Carmon Court-
ney, Mark Smith, Dave MacDon-
ald, Boyd. Carruthers and. Bob Bis-
sonnette for the boys. The top •
two teams will meet, after the
schedule is Completed, in 'a best
two out of three games match for
the championship. Points toward
an athletic letter are earned by
students participating in these
events and extra points are' award-
ed to members of the charripion-
ship team.

This week 'in Kindergarten we
are talking about the soldiers who
went .to war so that we can live
in a free country. We saw some
slides of a cemetery in
Holten, Holland where Canadian
soldiers are buried., Mrs. Elliott
took the pictures while'in Holland
, last year. //We watched a Rem-
ernbrance Day film with the
other class. •
We enjoyed a visit from our -
friend Constable Gaelor who
told us about school bus safety.

the final soccer gaine between
Grade 4 and 5 was played. Early
' in the game Murray Coiling 'scor-
ed for Grade 5. Jeff MacTavish
scored again' about. ten Minutes
later. The Grade 4 goal was
scored by Douglas Quinn and
Joanne Pollock scored near the
end of the game. Both teams en7
joyed• the series..

attended the Annual: Bazaar spon-
sored by the Women's Auxiliary
and officially opened by Rev.
Youmitof of Bayfield. The dis-
plays of crafts and home baking
were set up in the auditorium
with tea served, in the craftn
room.
Remembrance Day was the

were shown with Bert Colombe in
charge, of 'the' projector.
Readings were given by Mrs.
Sparling•and Alice Buchanan and
Musicafnumbers by Miss Gidley,
Mary Taylor:, Norman Speir and
Jerry Collins. The program that
had been arranged with the Sal-
vation Army for Thursday after-
noon, November 23 has been
cancelled.
Miss Anne Ferguson and a reading
by Mrs. Delbert Wilson. Brenda ,
and her attendants, sister Marsha
and Mrs. Brenda BensOn sat in
decorated 'chairs at the front of
the hall and opened The gifts dur-
ing the programme. Brenda made
gracious-reply , thanking-a-il-thc
ladies for coming and for the
lovely array of gifts. She also
invited everyone to her parents'
home to view her trousseau.
Lunch was served and a social
hour was,enjoyed. Present for the
occasion was Brenda's grandmoth-
er Mrs. JOhn McMurchy from
Lucknow.
. Bridal showers are the order of
the day in this area and two were
held for Miss Dianne KemptOn
on the week end. Relatives 'gath'-
ered at the home of Mrs. Harry
Coiling on Sattirday afternoon to
enjoy an afternoon of`contests,
fun and visiting.: Dianne was
assisted in opening her gifts
by her two sisters', Sandra and
Linda and JaniCe ROtteau. Every-
one enjoyed-a, Sdlo
Coiling accompanied by Joan
Ferguson. Dianne expressed her
thanks' for the lovely gifts, and
Mrs. Coiling and her helpers
served a bountecius buffet lunch-
eon. •

on Sunday for a noon luncheon
of Miss Dianne Kempton met to
