WET CORN STORAGE
The problems of extra wet corn
do not end with harvest. There is
a great danger of, bridging 'with
corn over 35% moisture in a bot-
tom unloading sealed silo which
makes it almost impossible to
empty the silo. If you decide to
use an acid preservative you
must apply 4 gallons per ton at
40% moisture which becomes ex-
pensive on the basis of pounds of
dry matter stored. If you decide
_to-store_ear.onLin_a_ck,ib the
crib should. not be more than 4
feet wide. In case of the silo' and
the corn crib, it is important to
remove the fines..
MOISTURE TESTERS
Moisture testers which dry the
'grain or other material are the
only reliable means of determin-
ing the moisture content of grain
_over 25%. - -
We have such a testei.in•-o-ur
office and will conduct tests on
request. Each test' requires 2
tabours Bring irr six-ears =-or-one -
pound, of shelled corn for a test.
TRADING EAR CORN
---Tfie-higher--theymoistere-the
greater the gamble in buying and
selling ear corn. With 15.5%
shelled corn selling at $45.00 per
ton ear corn withAernel moisture
of 40% wouldbe worth $24.42 per
2.57-15i
34% - $26.76;-32% $27.60:.
CATTLE FEEDING
CONTRACTS
Many cattle •are being fed on -
weight gain in the county and
others are getting interested in
either feeding cattle or having
them fed• depending on financial
circumstances. Most of the tattle
_feeding_ agreements • are verbal.
However, I had .a request for a
written contract form recently.
We now•have such a form avail-
able. It can be used in a written'
contract or as a guide in making
a verbal agreement. These forms
are available from our office.
