The Fall. Thankoffering meet-
ing of the afternoon auxiliary of
the Women's Missionary Society
of the Lucknow Presbyterian
•Church was held in the Sunday
School Room of the Church, on
Wednesday evening, October 4th.
The president Mrs. Jas. Smith
presided , opening the meeting
with a Thanksgiving reading and
prayer, following the singing of
Psalm, "Give praise and thanks.
unto the Lord". Mrs. Loree gave
the Bible Study ,. taking the scrip-.
ture from the book of Ruth on
which the study was based.
Mrs. Noble favoured with a
vocal solo, the minutes of the
last meeting were read and roll
call taken:, Sectional meetings
were announced for Wednesday
evening; October 11th in Ripley ,
and. Thursday afternoon, October
12th in Teeswater. An invitation
from Trinity United Church to
attend their Thankoffer.ing meet-
ing Thursday evening. October'
12th was read. Subscriptions
for the Glad Tidings were taken
by the Glad Tidings secretary;;
fter the offering was received
Mrs. J. Little gave the
offertory prayer.
Tom and. Rob Henderson gave
musical numbers on piano and
trombone,. After-singing-the—
hymn "For, the beauty of the
earth" , Miss Sadie Johnston in-
troduced the guest speaker, Mrs,
Wilfred_Congram of Wingham, •
who gave an inspiring message
which;she entitled "Slow me
down" which was appropriate to
these days of stress and strain.
She reminded us of our duty to
God in the use<of our time, tal-
ents, and money.
Mrs. Morgan Henderson thanked
Mrs. Congram and all who con-
tributed to the programme. After
singing hymn "Sing to the Lc-5rd
of harvest"*, Mrs. Sherwood clos-
ed the meeting with prayer and a
social time was spent with tea,
served by the Social Committee.

The October meeting/of the St.
Augustine C.W.L. was held in the
Parish Hall, Tuesday evening,
October 3rd., Mrs. John Franken,
the President , was in the chair,
and-Father-Dentinger opened the
meeting with prayer. '
Correspandence was read With
thankyou notes from Mrs. G.
Kinahan, Mrs. Helen Foran, Mrs.
Josephine Boyle. Roll call was
answered with 11 members present.
Mrs. Joe Hickey , Mrs. C. Boyle ,
Mrs. R. Boyle each gave very
interesting reports of the Deanery
meeting that was held in Goder-
ich September 20th. It was dec.;
ided that a donation of $3.00
would be collected during the
month of November from each
lady in place of the Bake Sale, and.
Bazaar. Mrs. G. Redmond and
Mrs. John Foran are in charge of
this. .
Mrs. Wm. Redmond gave a
reading on personal prayer
written by Reverend-Father -John
Lynch.
Father Dentinger gave a very
interesting talk on vocations. The
meeting, cloSed with prayer.
Luna was served by the 'Hostess
Lucknow Unit
Unit 3, of Lucknow United
Church Women .met in the church
-parlor- 'n-October--3 , with 19
rhembers present.
Mrs. Gordon Kirkland opened' ,
the meeting with a Thanksgiving
poem, followed by the singing of
the hymn "Sing to' the Lord of
Harvest" and the Lord's prayer
repeated in unison.
Mrs. Percy Newbold led in
devotions, using for 'the scripture
reading, Phillips translation of 1
Corinthians,. chapter 13.
In the English language there is
only the one word used for many
kinds, of love. In Greek there are
three., each meaning a different
kind of love. Philia , is the. love
of friendship, eros, the love of
desire or romance, agape is com-
passionate loye , the words that:
expresses the lOve of God.

Mrs. Newbold concluded with
a poem "Indifference". God
might prefer our hatred to our
indifference. Prayer followed.
The roll call was answered by.
stating "Why I am thankful".
During the business pelriod
arrangements were made for the
W. visit to Brucelea Haven,
members taking candy for a treat.
A hot. Turkey Supper will be
held October XT. An invitation
was received from Trinity U.C.
W. to. attend their Thankoffeting
October 12. Our own lhankoffer-
ing will be November 9.
Mrs. N. J. MacKenzie was in
charge of the program. •"Come ,
ye thankful people come': was
sung, and Mrs: MacKenziThad
ant article on Thanksgiving,Day.
Mrs. J. Wraith read two' short
poems. "I. Walked in Autumn
Woods" and "Hold Autumn in
Your Hand".
Mrs. Wightman gave a .study on
"Uganda, its geography , people ,
and causes leading up to the pres-
ent expulsion of Asians.'
Mrs. Ross Cumming played a
piano instrumental "Let There Be
'Peace on Earth".
- "Lord Dismiss us with Thy .
Blessing" was sung and Mrs. Mac-
Kenzie closed the meeting with
prayer.

Prayer" and "More".

Laurie Little of Listowel. cousin
of the bride. Their gowns and
flowers were the same as the mat-
ron of honour's.
Matron of honour was' Mrs'. Ken
Little of Kitchener. She wore,a
gown of blue crepe with sthocked
bodice and long sleeves and car-
ried an arm bouquet Of wheat witb
coral shaded gladioli. •
