A tractor trailer truck,, carrying
a total weight of about 42 ton's,
proved too heavy for the
"Fla-x--Mill bridge!!--in Luc laiow
late Thursday afternoon and the
truck, load of barley and bridge
ended up in the Lucknow River ,
or hovering just above it.
The truck was owned by John
Johnston. Transport 'of Fordwich. -
It was driven by tavern'e Housser
of R. R. 2 Wroxeterwho escaped
uninjured.
Anson Ruttan, manager of.the
Fordwich Feed Mill Ltd. , stated
that the'Johnston truck had been
engaged by them that day, their
w on truck at the Feed Mill being
busy. The truck was hauling a
load of barley from the farm of
Carl Hociey in Huron Township to
the Fordwich Mill and en route
was-Ilweighing in" at Anders
Flax Products Ltd. in. LucknOw
where arrangements had been
made for that purpope.
The loaded truck came south
on Havelock Street from High-
way 86 passing over two small
bridges in the area of the resid-
ence of William ScOtt.
After the load had been
weighed, 'the 'driver was proceed-
ing west on Canning. Street. His
cab was over the bridge when the
wei ht of the loaded trailer col-
lapsed the structure.
Much of the load of barley was
spilled into the river. Diesel
fuel also escapee' into the stream.
Extensive damage was done to.
"the truck.
