BY-LAW NO. 3.— 1972 •
pounded shall be held for a period of three clear days and if
not claimed and released to the owner thereof within such
period of three clear days may then be killed or sold by the
Animal Control Officer 'as he may deem fit, the selling price of
any dog so sold to belong to the Municipality; a dog so hi/pound-
ed shall not be released until the owner thereof shall pay to the
Animal Control Officer or Treasurer a sum not exceeding four
($4.00) plus the sum of two dollars ($2.00.) for each twenty-four
hour period or part thereof during which such dog has been
impounded, nor until the owner thereof shall have caused such
dog to be licensed by the Village of Lucknow; any dog sold by
the Animal Control Officer shall be reported directly to the
Tax Collector of the Village of Lucknow to be licensed.
4. An owner of a dog which has been apprehended by' the Animal
Ceintrol-Officer-must--pay--the--charges,incurred while such dog
is impounded.
5. As owner whose dog has been apprehended by the Animal Centro,
Officerlhat has not been licensed by the Village of Lucknow shall
submit' proof of licensing to the Animal Control Officer before
such dog is released from the pound.
6.. A penalty of not less than four dollars ($4.00) and not exceeding
ten dollars ($10.00) exclusive of costs is hereby imposed upon
every person. who contravenes any provision of this part and
every such penalty, shall be recoverable , under The , Summary
Convictions Act. -
PART III
RUNNING AT LARGE OF DOGS.
For the purpose of this Part a dog shall b4leemed to be running
at large when found in a highway or other public area and not
under the control of any person.
The running at large of dogs is prohibited within the municipality
and the owner of any dogs so found running, at large shall be
guilty of a breach of this by-law and liable on conviction to the
penalty provided in section 6 hereof.
A dog which is found running at large contrary to the provisions
of this_P_art-may_be seized and impounded; a .dog so impounded
shall be held for a period of three days and if not claimed and
released to the owner thereof within such period of three days
may then be destroyed or sold by the Aninial Control Officer
as he may deem fit, the selling price of any dog se sold to belong
to the Municipality; a dog so impounded shall not be released
until the- owner thereof shall pay to the Animal Control Officer
or Treasurer the sum of ($2.00) for each twenty-four hour period
or part thereof during which the dog 'has been impounded and,
in addition thereto, the sum- of-four-dollars-($4:00)s-the-case-
of a dog impounded for a second or subsequent- time, the ad-
ditional sum of ten dollars ($10.00).

(a) On Payment of the license fee referred to in (a) above the
owne: shall be furnished with a dog tag for each dog so licensed.
(b) The owner shall keep such tag securely fixed on the dog at
all times during the year and until he procures a tag for the
following year and no person other than the owner of a dog shall
remove the tag from such dog.
(c) The .tag shall bear a serial number and the year to which
it applies and a record shall be kept by the Municipality showing
the name and address of the owner and the serial number of
(d) No person shall use a tag upon a dog other than that for
which it was issued.
,(e) No license shall be transferable and 'the license referred to
in Section 1 sh-ZI expire and become void upon the sale, death
or other disposition or disposal of the dog to which such license
relates and the tag furnished for such dog shall be forthwith re-
turned to the Municipality.

A BY-LAW TO REPEAL BY-LAW NUMBERS 9 AND 10 OF 1956
AND TO ENACT A NEW BY-LAW TO. PROVIDE FOR THE REGIS-
TRATION OF DOGS, THE. COLLECTION OF A LICENSE FEE
FROM THE OWNERS THEREOF AND FOR REGULATING' THE
RUNNING AT LARGE OF DOGS IN. THE VILLAGE OF LUCKNOW
PASSED UNDER THE PROVISIONS OF THE DOG TAX AND LIVE-
STOCK AND POULTRY PROTECTION ACT R.S.O. 1970, CHAPTER
133,
Lucknow ENACTS AS FOLLOWS:
PART 1
DEFINITIONS, ETC.
1. In this By-lawr
(a) "Dog" means a male or female dog.
(b) "Owner" of a dog includes a person who possesses or har-
bours a dog, and 'owns" and 'owned" have a corresponding
meaning.
(c) "pure-bred" means,
(I) registered or eligible for registration in the register of
The Canadian Kennel CM, Incorporated, or
(II) of a class designated as pure-bred in the regulations;
(d) "Animal Control Officer" shall mean the person or associa-
tion appointed by the Corporation of the Village of Lucknow
- to enforce this by-raw and any servant or agent or such
person or association employed for the purpose of enforcing
the said by-law.
PART II
LICENSING AND REGISTRATION- OF DOGS
1. (a) Every owner of a dog in the Village of Lucknow shall within
one-month-aft-er-becoming- such owner; -eause--such -dog to_be__
WHEREAS it is deemed expedient to pass , a by-law to provide for
the registration of dogs and the payment of a license fee by' every
owner of a dog and to regulate the running at large of dogs in the
Village of Lucknow.
THEREFORE the Council of the Corporation of the Village of
licensed in the office of the Village Clerk for the period which
will expire on the' last day of; December in the current year, and
shall thereafter annually on or before. the 28th day of February
each year cause such dog to be again licensed for one year from
the said 1st day of January.Every owner shall pay the following
license fee: ,
For a male dog or spayed female dog ' $' 4.00
For each additional male dog or spayed female dog 6.00
For a female dog, if only one is kept 10.00
For each additional female dog 15.00
(b) The owner of a knennel of purebred dogs -registered in -the

it is habitually kept and whether, under or not under -the control
of any person, without a tag shall-be impounded; a dog so im-

PART IV
RABIES CONTROL
i. When 'a dog is known to have bitten a person, the Medical Officer
of .Health may order that the dog be kept under supervised
quarantine for a period ,of 14 days, and the owner, if known,
shall be held responsible for the cost of such quarantine.
All By-Laws or parts of By-Laws heretofore passed inconsistent
with the provisions hereof and respecting the registration of - dogs and-
the collection of license fees, the securing of dog tags and the running
of dogs at large are hereby repealed.

ning at large and - or such dog cannot be apprehended by 'the
