DONALD EDWARD CARDIS
On Thursday, July 20, 1972
Donald. Edward Cardis passed away
in Wingharn and District Hospital
where he had been a patient for
several weeks.
Don Was born on the Fourthcon-
cession of. Huron Township on Feb:
ruary 17, 1897. He was• a son of
the late EdwarcrCardis and Mary
McLennan.
Died In Hospital
The 34th Helm picnic was held
July 23 in Ashfield Park. Supper
was held at 5.30 after, which the
president Grant Helm of Tiverton
and secretary-,treasurer Mrs. Allan
Ritchie took charge of the •
business
A motion was made to, ' ,
send post, calds to the committees
in charge and the head of each
family. It was decided to have
the picnic for 1973 in Ashfield
-Park-on the-fourth-Su-nday-o-f
'July. .As this will be the 35th
Anniversary it was requested to •
make a special effort to attend.
Mrs. Eunice Dunsmuir took
charge of the program which in-
cluded two readings "What a
Grandma Is" and "Grandma's
Dusty Rocker" by Mrs. Bert
Helm of Tiverton; a solo by
Cathy Dunsmuir; a reading "If
Jesus Came to Your House" by
Mrs. Eunice Dunsmuir. Prizes
at the table were, gent with

Surviving is his wife the former
Ellen McDonald of the 2nd con-
cession of Huron Township and
one son Lorne of Kitchener, and
one granddaughter. He was pre-
deceased by one sister Mamie
and•one brother Dav,id.
He was'a forriaer member of
Pine River United Church and the
last surviving member'of the male
quartette. At the time of his
death Mr. Cardis was a member
of the LucknoW United Church.
His funeral service was held
from MacKeniie Memorial Chap-
el with Rev. Robert Nicholls'in
charge , with burial in Ripley
Cemetery. • .

Mr. and Mrs. Donald Courtney
gathered at the home of Mr. and
Mrs. Bob Courtney on Sunday
afternoon. The occasion was to
honour Don and Ivy and also. their
daughter Carol% prior to their
leaving this area for their new
residence-in Wingham. Mrs,.
Clara Courtney', Mr. and Mrs.
John C. MacDonald , Courtney ,
Corrine, and Susan Farrell also
,attended from Ripley.; and Mr.

from Weston., the good weather
made for an enjoyable time On
the lawn, visiting and chatting. •

Don and Ivy were presentechwith,
a lovely crystal bowl and Carol
received a cup and slaucer, Lunch
was served to bring the afternoon
to a close.
