Hugh took the championship with a 21-10 win over Rev., Don Campbell of,Sarnia in the finals for 'the A. A.' Langford Memorial Trophy. Nora Finnigan's rink of Wing- ham placed first; Yvonne Mac- Pherson's Wingharn rink was sec- ond .; Kay Murray's rink „also of- Wingham placed third; 4th prize went to a Lucknow rink of Audrey MacDonald , Betty Finlayson arid Ella Hackett; 5th prize went to Isabel Miller , Tillie Wilson and Mrs. Gershom Johnston. Saddle Club Meeting And Riding Meet The regular meeting of The Riders Roost. Saddle• Club took plate at Ralph and Pat Aald.ers with an attendance of 32. As' there was no special guest for this meeting, Carolyn' Taylor gave a talk on'stOring and cleaning leather: She also took two brid- les apart and had Janine Glenn and Kenny Ritchie put them to Ralph and Pat had 2 horses, and three ponies tied handy and these were used for bridling and saddling by the children (under the supervision of the adult• members). The Horses•Prayer was read by Sadie MacMillan. Next riding meet will be in two weeks at Tay- lors to be in the farm of a rodeo. Everyone is,to bring their horse if' possible. Next meeting will be at the home of Philip and Sadie MacMil- lan. Door prize was won by Pat Aalders, The Riders Roost Saddle Club ' held their second riding meet last Sunday at:Taylors P.M.A. Stabt 1es-1n spite of a few interrup- tions due to rain the meet was successful. A group lesson for the mem,bers was conducted by instructor Mrs. Joan Leeson of .1i:inkpow. Men Win. Bowling. Trophy The Men's Doubles.- Tourna- ment was held Monday evening , July 17 on the Wingham green where ten teams of lawn, bowlers competed for the Hanna Trophy. First place was a tie between the Jack MacDonald7Alex MacNay team of Lucknow and the Dave Colclough-Cliff Ashton twosome' from Clinton, both with scores.of three wins and a plus of 3,3. The ,Lucknow pair won it on a draw , pushing the Clinton duo into second place. Other winners were: third , Jack Fisher. and Jack Henderson, Luck- now ,.with two_ wins , a plus of 34, overplus of one; fourth, Harry • Browne and Alan MacKay of Wingham , two wins and 34; fifth, Frank McCormick and Jim Coul• - tes of Wingham and. Belgrave , one win, a plus of 31 and over- plus of 12. Lorne 'Gardner , president of the local club, presented the Hanna Trophy to Mr. MacDonald and Mr MacNay, the winners. RECREATION BEAT Even though we might not like, the thought , our summer is rapid- ly slipping away. We should be into the remainder of the season. The excellent crowd which turn- ed Out for the Teen Dance on Saturday night is 'a good indica - • lion that more such dances should, be held, before the season ends. We will keep you posted on future times and dates. - Labour Day week end promises, to be a very exciting week end in Lucknow,this year. There will be events such asCar rallies, soap box derby, antique car show-;---barn-d-ance , chciterr-Bar--- B -Que and much More.:, Make sure you reserve those days. For 'those. who are unable to get out we're on, visitation this week*to the nursing homes and local shut-ins, 'keeping you in touch with all the up. to date events going on and open for any 'suggestions you may have. Playground registration was held last week for the Kinloss area. There was a fair response, . but hopefully. more children will show up. Remember, if you are between,the ages of 4-12, come Friday , August 4th from 9.00 - 12. 00 and participate in the var- ious programs our playground supervisors haye planned for yOu. This coming Monday and Tues- day , August 7th and-8-fh; there will be a community Skatathon to help the LiOns Club with differ- ent projects. SEVEN The regular meeting of the /Riders Roost Saddle Club was held at the farm of Philip and Sadie MacMillan., Carolyn Taylor gave the report and winnerS of the rather slow paced Rodeo held at their farm on July 22. The next regular meeting mill., be, held at the Taylor farm in two weeks'. Carolyn will conduct a quiz on care of tack. The results of the quiz on grooming were very favourable., Special guest at the meeting was Dr. Green of the Wingham Clinic. Dr: Green spoke .on • regular care of the horse , corn- nkina about what wean orani,mon ailments and first aid;,., His tall< was very informative and was much enjoyed by the members. Plans were made for a picnic and trail ride the first part of August starting at 9.30 a.m. until noon. Midgets Play Summer Hockey Southampton Midgets put on a real third period drive in the first summer hockey game at the South- ampton arena Saturday; July 22 to defeat Lucknow 9 to 7. -LucknoW had a 4 to.2 lead at , the end of• the second period but Southampton came up with seven goals in the final frame to take 'the lead. *Lucknow was disappointed in the refereeing and the game got a bit out of hand late in the game. • , Greg Hamilton of Amberley lOst a tool 1-1111. . Lucknow goals were scored by Ian Montgomery 3, Jim Murray 2, Kevin Murray and Kevin Ackert 1 each. • Some 150 vectators witnessed the exciting game.
