The thinking of world leaders sometimes puzzles the mind and
the recent upsurge of the' war in Vietnam 'brought the whole sickening
situation back to the front pages of the newspapers and onto the TV
screens.
We listened to, and read comments recently by military and
political leaders of the United States, including the president, who
were concerned about the fact that the •Soviet Union was supplying
North Vietnam with weapons and war machinery. They aCcused the.
Soviets of Withering the war in-ViethtiM.
_,-Strange talk coming from, a country which not only supplies the
war machinery for the South, but the manpower and military leader-
ship to make it go. Comments on Russian interference make absolutely
no sense to friends of the United .States. We can only' imagine how
they must look to enemies.
The Ameritan aiilitarrleader, in -Charge of the South Vietnam
fighting force; was interviewed last week and asked if he was hopeful
of driving 'die North Vietnamese back across the Cambodian border.
Hee---vet7 emphatically answered in the negative, and stated that they
intended to "kill them all before they got there."
We suppose this is the whole purpose of the exercise, but it
does leave some pretty sobering thoughts in the minds of those who
care to think about it. • "'pi) •

Has the New Democratic party in Bruce. Riding written off this
area as a source of support in the next federal election? Or perhaps
does the party organization not realize that this community is within
-thc- riding?
