EVIL PREVAILS WHEN GOOD MEN DO NOTHING
. BY MRS.. JIM MARTIN
Vatican II Decree on Christian
Education states that "Parents
Must Be Acknowledged As The
First And Foremost Educators
Of Their Children".
Under the local guidance of
three very important people in
our Parish of Ashfield, the par,
ents were able to fulfill their
duties of Vatican II last Sunday.
Father Henry Cassano, Society
of St. Paul; Clem Steffler , Prin-
cipal of St. Joseph's School and
Mrs. Paul Eedy, teaeher of grades
2 and 3 worked patiently and lov-
•ingly‘every Wednesday. with the
youngstersIO prepare them for
their First Holy Communion. .
_Receiving the host (unleavened_ •
bread) for the first time, at ,Mass
on Sunday in St. Joseph's Church,
Kingsbridge were 17 children.
They are as• follows ; three child,
ren from St. Augustine , Colleen
Foran (*Gordon); Kathleen Foran
(John) and Haar Boyle (Raymond).

satin sashes with a white fringe
edge ,.and the boys wore identic-
al blue sashes.
The older children took'an ac-
tive part in the reading of the
Acts of the Apostles, Prayers of
the Faithful, and the Offertory
ProcesSion.
Out of town friends and relatives
expressed their feelings as to the
simplicity of the ceremony, in-
cluding the children's attentive-
ness, the_attractive floral arrange-
ments and most of all, the choir.
Their hymns included "0
Sacrament Most Holy", "Lord
Accept the Gifts", "Thank You
Lord" and "They'll 'Know' We.
Are Christians By Our Love". ,
The children received rosaries
and certificates from. Mrs. Frank
Riegling,. Kingsbridge and Mrs.

C. W..L, Church Life Conveners..
A Communion Breakfast prepared
by the C. W.L. was held immed-
iately after, the Mass in the church
basement. Mrs. Eugene Frayne ,
Mrs. Eldon Austin, Mrs. Bill
Hogan and Mrs. Jim Gilmore also
served lunch and hot drinks to the
friendsand relatives. -
To-day those living carefree
youngsters in their all-to-short
days of childhood are a little,
more: grown up and responsible.
April 9th was a big day in their
lives - for they too worked hard.
