Under the local guidance of three very important people in our Parish of Ashfield, the par, ents were able to fulfill their duties of Vatican II last Sunday. Father Henry Cassano, Society of St. Paul; Clem Steffler , Prin- cipal of St. Joseph's School and Mrs. Paul Eedy, teaeher of grades 2 and 3 worked patiently and lov- •ingly‘every Wednesday. with the youngstersIO prepare them for their First Holy Communion. . _Receiving the host (unleavened_ • bread) for the first time, at ,Mass on Sunday in St. Joseph's Church, Kingsbridge were 17 children. They are as• follows ; three child, ren from St. Augustine , Colleen Foran (*Gordon); Kathleen Foran (John) and Haar Boyle (Raymond). he-fourteen-from-Kingsbridge were Bobby Austin (Wilfred); Carl Courtney. (Joseph);., Jackie , Daltorillytalkyr-Dztud-Doli-e-rty (Stan); Fredrick Gerdes (Gerry); Timmy Martin (Jim); Diane Mil, tenburg (Ries); Rose •Marie 9.Keefe.(Joseph); Yvonne Sinnett (James); Annie VanDiepen (Arie); Cathy Van Diepen (Theodore); Jackie andUirrimy Van Osch - (twins of Peter) and Tony Van' Dyke (Bill). Apart from their ordinary Sun- day clothing , the girls wore pink satin sashes with a white fringe edge ,.and the boys wore identic- al blue sashes. The older children took'an ac- tive part in the reading of the Acts of the Apostles, Prayers of the Faithful, and the Offertory ProcesSion. Out of town friends and relatives expressed their feelings as to the simplicity of the ceremony, in- cluding the children's attentive- ness, the_attractive floral arrange- ments and most of all, the choir. Their hymns included "0 Sacrament Most Holy", "Lord Accept the Gifts", "Thank You Lord" and "They'll 'Know' We. Are Christians By Our Love". , The children received rosaries and certificates from. Mrs. Frank Riegling,. Kingsbridge and Mrs. ,-S C. W..L, Church Life Conveners.. A Communion Breakfast prepared by the C. W.L. was held immed- iately after,the Mass in the church basement. Mrs. Eugene Frayne , Mrs. Eldon Austin, Mrs. Bill Hogan and Mrs. Jim Gilmore also served lunch and hot drinks to the friendsand relatives. - To-day those living carefree youngsters in their all-to-short days of childhood are a little, more: grown up and responsible.
