Water and Smoke
Damage At Home
Of Elliott Purves
A fire call'on Thursday evening
of last week, about 6.30 p.m.
took Lucknow Fire Department to
the residence of. Elliott Purves on
Ludgard Street in the north of the•
village near the Silverwood Dair-
ies plant.
The home was formerly owned
by 'Ken Nicholson.,
Elliott is employed at Douglas
Point.. Before he left for work in
the morning, he had extinguished
a fire in a Cushion Which was
smoldering. He had plaCed it in
a sink and felt that the fire was
out. No one was in the house
until supper time. Apparently the
cushion had smoldered all day:
Returning from work he found the
house full of smoke and again ex-
tinguished the fire in the cushion.
Opening the house to air it out ,
the,fire immediately "took off",
fanned ',by the air. The sink
where the 'cushion was sitting had
a tin wall behind'but apparently
the heat had ignited the partition,
got into the attic above the room.
flashed--across--into the-ceiling of
the upstaits.of the house and in
minutes presented a serious fire.
Piretnen succeeded, in putting
the fire but. The house suffered
heavy water damage, smoke dam-
age, but very little actual fire,
damage.
