ed a heavy fire loss 'on Good Pri-
day , just after the noon hour,
when flames levelled a broiler'
barn.
'The family had attended a
Good Friday thurch service in
Lucknow 'and were just sitting
down to dinner: when a neighbour
spotted the fire and alerted Harry,
to the • smoke coming from the
barn. The time would be about
1.15 p.m.
Fire had gained. headway in
the middle of the 3-storey 40 by
200 building and .was burning in
the partition, creating a dense
smoke. Lucicnow Fire Depart-
ment was summoned to the scene
but were unable to save the build-
ing. 'Water was' pumped from a
farm pond on the front of the
property.
Within_. I • — with its automatic feeders, water-
ers, exhaust fans and augers,
completely set, up for a chicken
operation, was completely. lost.
Also lost in the fire Were 24,000
broilers just -over seven weeks old.
They were scheduled th.be
shipped on Monday and Tilesday,
of this week.
Harry Burgsma , a native of
Holland , came to •Ashfield Town-
ship in 1958 when he bought the
present farm from John Brodie.
For three years prior, he had work
ed in construction projects in. the
Sarnia area.. During his years
here , he has made his farm one
of the' Show places of the area
and many people, during summer
,weather , took time to drive by
and admire his grounds and build-
ings. A carpenter and builder
himself,, Harry' did much of the
work on the property.
The farm had two large broiler
barns, the one which burned loc-
ated to the north of the house,
and a second one to the north-
east of the home.

Funeral Today
jim O'Donnell of Lucknow ,
who had been seriously ill in
Wingham Hospital for some time,
died there on Monday of this
.week. He was 5'1 years of age.
The boay rested at the MacKen-
zie Memorial Chapel in Lucknow
until Wednesday morning. Re-
qu'iem Mass will be held today;
idednesday, at St. Mary's Roman
-Catholic Church in Lucknow at
11 a.m. Temporary entombment
will be at South Kinloss Mauso-
leurn with Qreenhill Cemetery the
final resting place.
