ST, HELENS NEWS Mr. and Mrs. McKenzie Webb of South Burnaby, British Coh m. bia.and former residents of this community, celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on fan-' , uary 18th. Best wishes goesjo these fdrmer residents on this special occasion. Ten tables enjoyed the Shoot Party on' Thursday. evening. High prizes went to Mrs. Allan.Cran-' ston and Hugh Todd. Second high went to Lorne Forster and. Ross Errington. The most shoots went to Frank Mewhinney. The next party' is February 17th. Church services and Sunday School were cancelled on Sunday morning iat the St: Helens. Church due to the stormy week end. OLIVET Eleven contestants participate& in, the Lucknow Legion public • speaking contest. at the Lucknow Legion Hall on Monday night of this week. The event Itadbeen postponed from last' Friday'be- cause of the storm condition that There were six contestants in the senior division, grades 7 and 8 and five ,In the junior division, grades 5 and 6. Judges were Bill Black, princip- ,a1 of Colborne Central Public School; Murray Hunter, a teacher at the F. E. Madill Secondary School in Wingharn,and Mrs. Patricia-Hay of Wingham, a form- er teacher. . ' Winner in the senior division. was Mary Ann Alton, age,12, a grade 7 student at Brookside Pub- lic School.. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Blake Alton of Belfast. Mary Ann -spoke on "Attitudes and Enthusiasm". Second in the senior division was Mary 'Eadie, 12-year-o daughter of Mr, and Mrs. Lorne Eadie of Holyrood. 'Mary, a grade 7 student at Lucknow Central Public. School, spoke 'on "Reading". Other contestants in the senior division, their school-and topic were; Cheryl Hodgins ,. Brookside , "The-Rise_and_EarlyJigsaster of The Snowmobile"; Dianne Banner- Lucknow Central, "Bubble Cum"; Sheila Shiflett , St. JOsephs, Kingsbridge, "They Call it Sportl. Judy Tiger!„ St. Josephs, Kings- bridge , "The AltertaGame Farm". Annette Hodges, 11-year-old daughter of Mr.. and Mrs. Lloyd Hodges of pungannon, a grade ti student at,BrookSicle Public Sehool won first in the junior division with her topic Wilbur Mitchell".• Second place in the junior div- ision went to Jill Murray ,'10, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ab Mur- ray of Lucknow. Jill is in grade , 5 at Lucknow Central Public School and spoke on "Tobermory",. Other contestants, their school and topics were: Kathryn McKim, Lucknow .Central , "Barbados";..' David. Simpson, North Ashfiekl "BSseball"; Mark Frayne, St. Jos- ephs, Kingsbridge, "My Three Most Favourite Spofts". Tom Morrison, president of the Lucknow Legion, assisted by Irv- ine .Eiedy, presented the first and second place winners in each class with $3 each. The first place winner-receives a trophy for.the school and an individual trophy to keep. All other con- testants received $2.00 for partic- ipating in the contest. Clem-Stefiler„principal at St. Josephs Schbol at Kingsbridge, was chairman for 'the evening, and exprecced-thethanks-ofa-14 to the Legion, for sponsoring the contest.
