Elderslie Township Reeve Is Named Bruce
Warden, One Of Youngest At Age 38

Elderslie Township, was elected
the one hundredth Warden of
Bruce County, at the inaugural
meeting of the January Session,
held. Mcinday evening of last. Week
in the auditorium of the Walkerton
District. Secondary School. He
defeated J. P. Johnstone Jr,. ,,
• Reeve of St. Edmunds Township ,
• by a vote 'of 24 to 20 , `in the cus-
tomary open ballot.
One other nominee for the
wardenthip, ,Vernon Emke,o Reeve
of Chesley, withdrew.

opponent , whom he defeated by
the narrow margin after a close
race Johnstone Jr. , a vet-
eran campaigner, has, also been.
an active member of council,
and enters his sixth term. •
The last warded from Elderslie
was William R. Oswald who held

ed by George Joynt , Reeve of
Lucknow, with Robert Emerson,
Deputy ReeVe of Huron Township,
the seconder. Mr. Johnstone's

Bruce CoUnty's 1972 warden,
Harvey Davis entered .municipal
life when he was only 28 years
old as a member'of Elderslie
Township council. For the past
ten years he has been on council
with the last four years as reeve.
• When Bruce County, Council
members elected the one hundred-
th warden in the County's 105-
year history , they close- one of
the youngest to eve? preside at
the head of Bruce's municipal
table. •

The next youngest was
'justice Campbell Grant, who in
1933 as 'a yOung Walkerton layer ,
