In a joint statement made last
week, W. T. "Doc" Cruickshank
of 'Wingham and Walter J. Black-
burn of London, announced the
sale of CKNX Radio and CKNX-
TV in Wingharo to•theowners of
CFPL.Radio and CFPL-TV.
Mr.. Cruickshank, one of Cana--
da's pioneer broadcasters is. ;ChairF
man of the Board of Radio. Station:
CKNX Limited , licensee of CKNX
radio and television. Mr., 'Black-
.burn,, is Chairman of the Board of
CFPL, Broadcasting Limited', licen-
'see of the •CFPL radio and televi-
sion stations in London..
In commenting on the sale ,
which: is subject to the approyal, of
the Canadian Radio -Television
Commission , Mr. Cruickshank
expressed his confidence that
. under the new ownership, the
Wingham stations would continue
to broadcast the quality ofrvice'
that viewers and listeners have
grown to expect since CKNX
Radio -was established, by Mr.,
Cruickshank in 1926,
Mr, Cruickshank explained.
that because of the changing cir-
cumstances, of broadcasting and, •
the ever increasing expense invol-
ved in station' operations , the
decision CO sell was .necessary , to

Mr. Blackburn, a pieneer;Can-

said he was particularly pleased
that the purchase oPCKNX would
permit -the association of two
long established broadcasting
organizations serving. Western
Ontario for many' years.
He. paid tribute to "Doo" •
Cruickshank's enterprise. Start=
ing with .a radio repair shop in
1025, he experimented with an
amateur station which later be-,
came
widely-known-as-CKNX,,
one.of..Canada's first radio
stations
Mr. Blackburn recalled that in
1955 the people of: Wingham- and
the surroundingarea were provid-,
'ed. with the newest form of corn
Munication and entertainment'.

shown for the Cruickshank enter-
prise by proclaiming Wingham
"the radio and television town of
Canada", and citizens of the area ,
who otherwise would have had no
television service, responded
warmly to the new station.
Mr. Blackburn.announced that
(Murray T. Brown, President • and
General Manager of CFPL. Broad-
casting Limited ,' London, would
also be President. of Radio St—it—to—n-7
CKNX` Limited. Mr:', Brown said •
he was pleased, that G. W. Cruick:
shank has agreed to continue as, a
member 'Of th Board of Directors , .
although he and. John Cruickshank
would be retiring from their pies-
ent executive positions: The
operation of the' radio and televi-
sion stations would continue: to be
the responsibility' of the present
CKNX staff.
