Winnipeg Meeting'
Bill. Langdon, District Director.
was guest speaker at the National
'Farmer''s Union meeting in Brook-•
side School on November 19th..
Bill's subject was the'Federal
Task Force on Agriculture, and
during, the"week of the 16th a
meeting would,be held in every ,
Local across, Canada to explain to •
farmers; the implications of the .
Task Force
• Unr-es.t in_rurai. areas ,.:espeei
Eastern `Capada , 'brought. about
this.. report Not one farmer;
however, was appointed to the.
Task Force CoYn.m.ittee , 'no public
hearings, were .held , land there .
were no meetin•s with actual.
farmers. •
One suggestion of the Task--
Force is to stop all subsidies•
on Industrial 'Milk;• the floor price
on skim milk powder would:be
lowered until it was closer. to
world market prices World mar-
ket price is 5 d to 7 per pound
now,, and -there is 8 lbs. of pow
er per 100 lbs;' of milk. No far-
mer in the World can produce
milk at this. price , •
Another recommendations is
that' young',people; now in Agricu
ture be trained for something .
else, and low income farmers•be
moved to the city. ' Fewer fam-
ily farina increased farm size, .
and'•2/3 of Canada's farriers to.
leave the land are other recom
niendations. This is all ,part Of'
the: plan to discourage people
from farming, and the exodus ha
already begun, Bill :s'aid... Surplu
of food is given as reason for
'these recommendations, but ther
Is, in fact , not a ,surplus , the N.
FA.): contends. While part of th
world is su'ffe'ring frommalnutri-
tion and • starvation, something
must be done to solve the Gond i -
tions, which lead to misery. .The
Task Force as•a. National Policy ,
can •e dealt with only by. a Nati(
al Organization such as. the -
