On .Wed nesday of last wee.k,. a call'to the farm of John` Gamble an 'the 6th of Huron east was of a • minor nature. A blaze started when some soldering was being done but •was under control . wheri ;firemen arrived. Later in. the,,day , .at the home. of Mrs. William St1 in Ripley•,.an ' ov_e;rheat,ed_c.ii-.stoye,was bro.ught- unde•r control and on Sunday, a grass' fire call took the Ripley firemen to the. farm• of Emile MacLennan at 'Lochalsh..All calls were of minor nature. THAT Clarence Greer showed us an interesting 5 inch spike which he dug out of the stump of the, elm•tree which was re- moved froni'.the Lticknow post ' office corner. The saw , which removedthe tree ,' grazed the top. of-the-sp ke. By a bend in, spike, it was determined • that the nail had been driven •ru o-rhe:tr:ee ,a.bout 35 -years a.go.'and it took•the next,ten years for the tree to grown over, the exposed part_of the nail. .
