DUTCH CANADIANS'SAY'THANKrYOU
This Friday, . May .8th, is the 25th anniversary of VE Day, Vic--
tory in Europe for the allied . forces during the Second World War.
VE Day to some Canadians under thirty years ' of age means..
nothing except a page in a history book. To others, who were fortunate
enough to spend the past twenty-five years with a father, husband,
son or brother : who hadserved In the Canadian Forces, it should mean
much. '

To those who have lost 'a loved one in the Second World War, it
e when the sadness is relived\once a : ain.
Dutch Canadian citizens, who now call 'Canada .their home, have°
joined together on a nation-wide basis to present a united. "Thank .You
Canada", to citizens of this country which is now their country.
Holland' was liberated during the Second World War by Canadian
Forces., About 7000 Canadians :were; killed in Holland. in the battles of
194^ 45 llanders--ha<: a or-gotten-the--contrdb'utlon- of-Canadianbs-
to their country. Elsewhere. in this issue, 'local. Dutch Canadians have •

Johnstone of•Lucknow and'Brfan
Johnstone of Whitby. The store
is. at. Point Clark, just south of
where Pine River empties into
the lake.
. The three Johnstone brothers
• have possession now and will .be
open, weekends' until after May.
17th when they will be.open on a
continuous basis throughout the
summer.
Mr. and Mrs. MacKenzie have
operated the store for eleven
:years They purchased the prop'
erty from Mr. and Mrs. John
Coates and went to Point, Clark in
the sptsing•of 1959., They had
previously operated the•'Kings-
bridge -General Store for ten years
until it was sold tothe highway
and rerrioved. Prior to that :The
MacKenzies spent ten years in the
store ljusiness at' Bervie.. Frank ••
is.a ,naitive .of Teeswater and'Mrs.
MacKenzie is a native of.Niagara
on the Lake.' • They have spenl.

While at this particular time, Dutch Canadians are expressing
their thanks to other Canadians; the contribution has not been 'a one-
sided one.. Many Hollanders came to Canada to start a new .life fol-
lowing 'the war. These people, their children and their children's
children have contributed much to this 'country' and have helped to
make it the great nation that it is today": s

of VE, Day this Friday, May 8th. A memorial service will, be held
at the Lucknow Cenotaph at 8 p.m. with the parade of Legion mem-
bers, ex -servicemen and Dutch Canadian : citizens forming at :the Legion
Hall at 7:45"p.m. Citizens of the community are also urged to attend the
service. -
