TkIE CHRISTMAS CONCERT !
• Lucknow Public School .pupils, teachers, the music supervisor
and anyone connected in any way with the Christmas program held
recently are to be commended .for the very excellent performance.
Ver Y little is realized by most of us, how much work goes on
behind the scenes in presenting such lei concert With absenteeism
through sickness, it is difficult for the Small children to ever have a
100% cast on band to practice. Teachers could very easily forget
about such concerts, and who would blame them -We feel that they de-
serve a special word of praise for organizing such an event
It is a big •night for the chilch'en, tlie parents are proud as pear
cocks, and the grandpas and grandmas • and friends are all out in full
: There's no trOnble filling the-auclitorium-on-such-a-night.
The same good words can be said for allaa schools'. We speak
of Lucknow only because it happens to personally involve us. Here's
to the Christmas Concert and those who make it possible!

that legislation will be presented shortly to- raise the salaries and ex-
pense' allowances of 'provindal .members and cabinet ministers by
something more than 50%.
Few people with whom we have talked deny, the fact that mil-
, •
•t elected representatives, like all the rest of us, should expect a logical
, . increase in remuneration to meet the rising cost of living. It is the
' . percentage which itaggerage voter: Long -and costly -strikes-
- have been endured because demands for 25% increase over a three-
,
• year' period seemed excessive. The employer in this case is the
• payer and there won't even be an opportunity for the employer to
protest Since all party representatives Will benefit from the increase,
we can expect this bill to pass in,the Legislature with the least possible
opposition. . .
With cabinet ministers and prime ministers asking for restraint
in price and wage demands -- & open threats from the federal govern-
ment about the force -which' might be applied, the fluent phrases take
on a hollow ring. It might be noted that, as one instance, the increase
in salaries of hospital employees is limited by a rigid formula from
