Two instances: of rabid foxes in the community. within the past
week have pointed out a danger which' has eacisted for some time, but
which bears repeating
Small children should be warned of the.' dangers of these animals
and to
- to take immediate shelter in the closest 'residence, if such an
animal was, encountered while on the way'to school, or at play.

"Banana" seats and high-rise handle bars, bicycle gadgets drat
excite the admirationof modern small fry, are under scrutiny by the
Department of Transport.
The investigation is the result of opinions voiced by police and
other authorities that the new -style,. low -slung bikes with theirhigh
handle bars • and elongated seats are less ` controllable, and therefore
less safe, thanstandard. models. . `
'They also point to the. new bicycles as a possible factor,: in Ont
ario's disproportionateincrease in bicycle fatalities in 196,8. There were
47 cyclists killed in' Ontario last 'year, More. than double the previous
ye•ar's toll of • 22:: '
A pilot 'survey is afready underway Metropolitan Toronto police
are aiding in conducting,. the survey, which consists of obtaining in-
formation by . means, of •-a questionnaire on bicycle; , design,• equipment
and eo , clition to - be filled: out by a police 'officer reporting a bicycle
collisi. The effectiveness of the questionnaire will be assessed
`around November and some . tentative 'conclusions drawn:
