THE VILLAGE POSITION 1 ;
Last, week's editorial on "pumping is a Problem" produced
.some lively comment as editorials are . supposed to .do. 'The Sentinel
:spent a • .good portion of last Thursday morning in conversation with:
various, individuals about what had been' written. '
A. goodly of readers took time to tell us that :they agreed,
with; our comments; Some village officials did not agree with us .and.
in fairnessto them we will endeavour to tell- their position' on. the
village dump and its operation.
As we stated in 'last week's paper, the dump is presently open.
to the public one hour on Tuesday night and two :hours on Thursday `..
afternoon: Other thin these times, it is necessary to contact -the -dump
attendant of village 'officials to secure akey .if you . wish to make use
of the dump. ..
George Newbold, chairman of the sanitation committee on
Lucknow village council, saidthat he had heard rumours this spring
that the village residents were., not'. satisfiedwiththe limited dumping
times and so council decided to place a questionnairein this news-
paper
kin if' the "citizens of • th village . were. satisfied; with the
asking ge ag .. v
present hours,' if they wanted a change ,and if so, what would they
recommend
•
The ue ionnaire was spelled but, in detail, was simple to fill
in, it did not have to be signed and it was publicized in The Sentinel.:
in• both an, advertisement and' as a community' service: through: the
editorial columns. Four people answeredthequestionnaire (that's
right 4). Council.:assumed by this response that 99.9%n of the residents
of the village weresatisfied with .thepresent d ping `hours and we
feela fair 'assum ion n theirm.
that this' was pt o pant
Lucknow council feel that ' the ,dumping hours. are : satisfactory ,.'
because this is 'what' they have learned conclusively in' polling the ,
citizens through • the:. press'. ' By extending the dumping hours; they
.:would': be .giving. Lucknowites something that they 'haven't .asked for .'
and would have to spend additional public funds to do so.

At the Sedorid:ary level the',Huron

'Obvious`Iy-the,reason 'the' mill r -at,

in,1968 is 'that _ there was extensive

'Was alio some;d:eficit financing. In
1969,the surpluses are no longer the

In conclusion it .is granted that the
