The, chairman referredin iris op - 'ening remarks totwo major projects which are. at present under way at • 'the hospital. 'One is the installation of new x-ray equipment •at a cost of $62,000, to•be,paid for out of • hospital reserve funds. Morey, included the • statistics for the past year, showing the very considerable increase in the volume of work handled by, 'all. departments. For example , there were 2.,338 admissions, an increase of 344 for the previous twelve Months,: , Mrs. Morrey.pointed out that'the nature of .the hospital's service is. 'changing. There' arse more acutely. ill patients than 'previously, and lessat'ent p Sin the chronically ill wing . of the hospital. She _said that it is possible the .chronic patients' �. section :may.be gradually phased/: out and these- patients will .' . be' looked. after in :some other type • of hospital. . The daily average of :patients' , ..;. under-- care in• •1.968 -was -888 but -at times the figure ran to 110. Operations performed at the hos- pital increased sharply. There were 2243 operations,, an'increase of 827 in one year Ufpatients:tteated in the 'emergency department ,totalled 5297 which was 2258 more than the, previous year.' There was 'an increase of 747 -x-rays and 171 blood transfutians,, Electrocardio ' graphic examinations increased by `only 12 and: at .615 there were less. cancer patients at; the .clinics here than the year before, accounted for by the fact that a similar clinic, •was established at.
