Within the next few .weeks, minor hockey in this a>d' other
communities will wind up for the season. Despite the lack :of an
arena to play in, Lucknow minor hockey carried onunder more -
difficult; circumstances this year and the resultshave been
com-mendable. '
A:.special word of praise is in order for the xnany men and
women of the ;surrounding area' who are keenly , interested in the
promotion of minor' hockey. Their efforts are taken for 'granted by,
many and few wordsof praise ever pass their way. They are doing, •
a fine : job for the youth of the ° community.
Another word . of thanks and appreciation is in order for the
district arenas who have arranged' ice ' time :for' the Lucknow 'teams
this year.
Much is said by ; sportsmen . about . the sup "pport, or lack of
f ,for minor hockey in communities such . as ;ours. We must not'lose
t „ factthatminor hockeyis onl ..one method of contribut.

ing to the, youth work within our community. Minor hockey. concerns
only ,half .of the.. young people, the boys, and only a percentage of, the
boys are able to develop into: hockey players with . any degree of
• ability ;
•
Many citizens ' :of the • communit are contributing : to 'other

tice. The Girl Guide and Brownie leaders ' probably • wouldn't be very
skilled at' judging a 441 calf.
But they all have an' impor..tant' part to play ,in the. : youth work
° a4c mmunity. So do dozens and dozens < of . other. people who • are;
'providing: leadership as they know how. ' Minor hockey is a part, ,but
only a small part, of a Series '• of `.programs which assist the youth
of our community, So;let's' give; the utmost ,praise to our. men and
women who are interested, : inminor hockey,.; But let's. ' not be too'
critical of the many who are not . interested. Let, them "do their own
thing„ and be thankful that: they. are doing it.

LETTER, `To• THE ,E,DITO. R

Editor,. Lucknow Sentinel,
Dear Don:
AS . a former resident, a fre-
quent. visitor and one who is.
interested in • the general welfare
and development, of the Lucknow
community, I feel promptedto
express some of my feelings` and
• opinions; concerning. the prob- •
lems which now • surround the
Lucknow arena, These problems
'are: • not new 'byany means, they
have been discussed in the past
(1962) and they are.. now being
rediscussed (1968-69). However,
.besides :being: very 'interesting, it
is: also very disheartening to see
how these problems, have taken
on ' an entirely different emphasis,
and interpretation as: both time
'and municipal governments pass.:
on.
Isthe problem one of safety or.
one of renovation or. one of a
completely new. structure? : The
answer depends. •upon who you
talk to and upon 'the latest: eng-
ineering reports. What the vil-
lage, of.. Lucknow.. and the surround-
ing area really. needsis fewer '
.fact finding investigations and
more fact, facing .action. •
You have been without the . sm.-
, vices of your arena for one winter
now Some people• feel that there
11
• is no problem at ' all and that
they could open the arena any time A:family ' dinner was held
that 'they. so desired:. Which of '- Sunday. March .9 , at the hone of

Why not replace it with. 'a new

Can Lucknow dr area truly afford:
not to have an arena. This should
be the question,: what does it cost
the village and townships to be.
without this service? The arena
even in thebest years did not •
make toomuch.. money: However
there are many other costs and
benefits besides: the financial ones
which should and must be consid
