Fire destroyed a barn_of Mr. and.•
Mrs. Jim Martin in. Ashfield Town-
ship about 8:30 p.m•,(Sunday even-
ing..
ven-ing, Lost, besides the barn itself,
were about 70 pigs which included
27 sows and .2 boars, their entire.
breeding stock. Also lost in the fire
were a new plow,a new auger,
about 2000 bushels of grain, 400
bales of straw .and: some baled hay.
Mrs.. ,Blaise Martin:, Jim's mother,
resides in the house on the farm
where the barn wastiurned. Mr. .
and Mrs. Jim Martin reside on the
adjacent .farmwhich is about one
mile north of Port . Albert on Hig)i-
way 21. The Martins discovered :the

in the upper portion and by the
time Jim arrived at the barn it
was well beyond, saving. He letthe
pigs out but they had been badly
burned. and had to be destroyed,
Lucknow Fire Department was ,
summoned and made the run to
ort • n in; ' azardous weat er
conditions:. Sleet and freezing
rain had made; driving conditions
very, poor. The barn was beyond
saving when firemen arrived The
fire did not seriously threaten the
house as the wind was in the : right
direction.

Lucknow District High School.
This `is Mrs; Tenpenny's first
teaching position and she will
instruct marketing, book-keeping
and'typing; She is residing in Luck -
now at the home of Mrs. Charles

caused. by the death of Mrs _' Tom
MacKenzie a few weeks ago. Mrs
MacKenzie had taught Commercial
