HURON. ELECTION
CONTINUED FROM PAGE; 1
Hu Eameron was; asked to act.
as chairman fora rather poorly
attended ratepayer's meeting follow.
ing the close of nominations and
after a few remarks he called on
McCharles to -give a 'report on
the . Ripley District High School. He
explained; some of the costs: of
operationand installing new,. 'w,ind
ows in the school.'
Leonard Courtney reported for the
Township School Area' regarding
salaries and redecorating Pine'River
Central School this summer. ` •
Reeve William R. Lowry reported
on some of the work of the County
Council and in Huron. Township
where they had to change. Road
Superintendents and hire two. grader
operators.. Despite this, .Mr. Lowry
felt Huron.has as'good:•roads as the
neighbouring townships.'
Dave, Moore, Road Superintendent
;then reported oil the•Road work and
answered some of rhe:complaints
:with regard to rough roads this Fall
which was, due partly'to graders
being on ,construction when'the
roads were' dry enough to grade . ,
The calcium chloride appeared to.
keep the roads sloppy in this extra
wet season. Mr: Moore felt Huron.
should be, putting, 40,000
yards' of 'gravel on the roads instead
of the 23,900 yards which are put
on.
.Russel. Needham complained of
(the untidy condition the dump is in
and thought :the ,township would
have to hid"e a•caretaker part time
to' supervise the dumping. He '
;expected about threeyears would
bring in Regional. -Government.
John. Ferguson explained the, ex-
parading lake front where there a.re',
six new subdivisions going ahead.
This will add to the 'assessment
Melville .Pollock was satisfied
with the work in his concession
where there is a new ,bridgeunder
construction and . road widening
which would have beencompleted,'
weather permitting: He did• not
want to move up to Reputy-Reeve '
so soon, • but consented when no one.
else. was ready, to advance.
Russell Stanley spoke on the'Boiler
Beach controveyr. of last summer .•
and said council still.didn'.t know
who owns 'the beach until the
Department; of Lands''& Forests.
completes their survey.. Russell did
not think. Huron needed' ninety' foot
roads which the Department.requir-.
es :for road widening. .:
Elmer Smeltzer wanted more
grader work done on the concessions
and ' less on construction when
weather permits. He would like a
chance to. 'serve on Council.
Robert Emerson congratulated
Council on the progress• made this
sumrner.under such wet conditions. .
He, was pleased .with the number of,'
Muncipal.drains going in which.:
should'help agriculture .in the "'
Township. He felt that Huron
should encouragelake front devel
opment . He was 'concerned with the
number of dead elm trees along the
roads which might cause accidents
and thought the council/should '
have•them eut 'down.
Ernie Greer, Reeve of Kincardine
.Township, was called on and he
helped to explain some of the quest
ions which` were fired at hirci..
Ernie didwnot seem to mind and
answered them. as if he were, runn ,
ing for a seat in Huron. He thought
the calcium which was used last
summer was mastly •wasted, money
due to the wet weather.
Some other, ratepayers wanted to
get action started against the pro-
posed, County School Boards:
Election for. Reeve and Three
Councillors will be held, on Decem-
ber'4.with voting hours fronn.10”
