The Lucknow Sentinel, 1967-11-15, Page 146y Helen Courtney Last week the staff and the stud- encs worked especially hard for: Commencement. This not only entails decorating butalso it means conducting the choir and band in • an .orderly fashion. Commencement was a great 'success and we were:' pleased with the<,response of the community. Noel Mason, former principal at Lucknow District High School was.. guest speaker and.was welcomed. with ::anticipation and his speech to the graduates; was most, appropriate. for the occasion. He reminisced:. 'about a few incidents. which took place last year. outlined the im- portance' -of and stridestowards education and closed with five im- portant points to consider in the future; Laurin Morrison was Valedictor- ian and kept a very attentive audience 'while she also spoke briefly on her past years at high school and the enjoyment she re- 1a is rt 0 THE LUCKNOW, SENTINEL LUCKNOW,. ONTARIO' ceived from them. S he'thanked. the teachers and her parents, for the wonderful chance she .was given to educate herself. Laurine's speech was well received. • By special request the choir sang "The Halls of Ivy" with Mr. John Allason as conductor They, also-. .sang another selection but I, believe, that the former was verymuch en- joyed and familiar to•mst. It was also very ,meaningful and realistic for the graduates. Commencement .exercise§ closed. with a selection from the band, and a tea followed in rooms 10 and 11 with grade twelve girls in charge. The entire commencement prog- ram is being published which lists:. those -receiving awards and those making the presentations. In a few cases; donors and recipients were unable to be present and substitutes filled in. Wayne Todd's name was omitted from the grad- uates of grade 12B .
