Charles McQuillin of West Wawa -
nosh Township on Sunday found a -
"weather balloon" caughtup in a
iree on -their farm. • • .
Proper nam e for the instrument is
a Radiosonde and it was issued by
the United States Department of •
Commerce 'weather bureau. The
weather recorder is sent aloft bythe
use of a balloonand is tracked to
he ghts o 17 miles. W en t .e
balloon breaks, the instrument is
returned to. earth by the. use of, a
'small orange parachute.
It was this bright orange parachute
which caught Charlie's eye.* The
instrument was about 40 feet up in
a tree half way back on the farm'.
Charlie and Bill PurciOn removed
the instrument from the tree. The
parachute was about 18". 'across and
the,balloilli'wai in fragments.'

held in Lucknow last Saturday with
slightly over 70 boys signing up
for the minor hockey ranks.
