at Olivet entertained members of
Pine River, Bethel and Clarke Unit;
ed, Church. Women Mrs. Reavie, a
teacher In the school for 'retarded
children in Wingham, told of -her
work and gave •a very interesting
outline of Canada's progress in •
educating the mentally retarded.
The first school ofthis type in
Canada was opened in Kirkland.
Lake' 20 years ago., there:are now •
97'in Ontario.alone... Academic sub,
jects are geared to individual abil-
ity; every -day living,; physical
activities • and .handicrafts are also
taught.
These schools are financed:by the
government.; have well trained
teachers • and are visited by • inspect
ors'. as' :are'other •schools .
