BY CATHY HEDLEY
Septetober16th was the day
.chosen for Lucknow Fair, ' At last,
the big day arrived. The sun was
shining prightly; the air was lovely
and warm. Everyone, was hurrying
and scurrying to get to the fair..
Some were dressed in -Centennial
costumes. Thfs was the one
hundred and second fall fair'. A
largecrowd had gathered.' •
Down the main street came the
Lucknow Police car. The parade
must have left Milne's field where
it had been organized. Funny
clowns ran here and there. Army
trucks were first in the'parade,
followed by fair officials.and mem
betsof parliament. Then came the
convertibles .= Dr. Mel Corrin's
carwas graced by beautiful Miss
Dominion of Canada. She was
followed: by other local girls,com-
peting for Miss Mid -•Western,
Ontario. Several schools had floats
in the parade. Local merchants also
competed.. The star' attraction to
me was a pair, of Shorthorn Steers
drawing.a'cart. Four bands .:were ,in
attendance, ,As the parade made its
way down the main Street it made
a beautiful sight, one to be remem-
bered

-Parlament will be faced with
some facts from ACTRA, the per-
formers' ,and writers' union for
English. -language. broadcasting.
Here are a; few: ,CTV produced
31/2'hours of programs a.week .in
Canada, while importing more
than .60 hours a week from the U.S,
and Britain. The CBC will receive
$140 million in Government grants
and less..than 4 percent will be
spent on, English-language writers`
and performers. Canada 'spends
more than $20.million a year•on
U.S. programs for. Canadian TV,.
and the U.S. spends nothing' here*
•
The list goes on.,Does: ACTRA
want more money spent on more
Canadian programs? Do they want
an increase in the present 55' per,
cent Canadian content law?
The ratings show that peoplemant
to be entertained all the time hot
educated. The next item in this •
colum n will prove this point.
Let's hope that Parliament- will'
not pay 'too. much •attention to this
