Huron Farmer Loses
Barn, Season's Crop
•Afire believed' to have been
caused by spontaneous, combustion
completely destroyed the barn on.
the farm of Wray Osborne on the
fifteenth near the twelfth conces-
sion of Huron on Tuesday night of
last week about eight -thirty. While
M. Osborne has lived here for
• sometime; many who. have moved
away from Ripley will recall this as
the former Jack Patterson 'property.
Wray is reported to have been •
assisting a neighbour 'with his har-
vesting and had returned home,
discovering shortly after that his.
barn with' the season's crop was
afire. •
An immediate call broughtthe ••
Ripley Fire Department and through
their efforts the house was saved
from destruction. " •
Although cause of the fire cannot
be definitely established the theory
of spontaneous, .combustion cannot
bepverlooked•since, in. a ,matter
ofseconds,, the whole building
:seemed to explode in flaines. '
• Credit must go to the. Ripley`fire
• department and .neighbours for their
untiring 'efforts to 'protect. the ;.

An unusual aspect "Of the fire was
the fact that it was the regular
meeting night of the Ripley Fire
Department and when the fire •
alarm was sounded there were
many who assumed that it was the',
regular call for the 'brigadeto turn,
out for the meeting. ' •• ••
