With a. • sunburned nose,, peeling back,, headache from Sunday's sun, a ,phone that won't stop ringing, and •all the people who have been try- ing to,$et in touch with us for the past two week's converging on the office,. Such is the price of a'holi- day but it ••really Was quite pleas ant while it lasted. ', • ,* * • ,* •. . Although we realize that we do far less exciting things during Our 'holidays thanthe tnajority of our readers,‘ it has beconie .a :custom. to comment in print.•on'our two week vacation. Many people tell us they enjoy the comment •and .we. are suremany others.never get past the first paragraph,. * ,.. •. • • 4 * •* Everyone feels that his or her job is the world's most demanding, but two weeks away from deadlines, phone calls; meetings, Meetings, and more meetings, . most :of which are after .yotir regular working day, is a much anticipated break to all 'newspaper people.. *. * *. • +, EXPO. in Montreal was:the .destin ation of the Thompson family,. Bev,. Don, Susanand°Nancy; for the first four days of the•'holidays. We left Saturday by car for Toron. to and after an overnight stay, • . took' the train, the CNR. Rapido, : to Montreal. S;aturday en route to Toronto 'we, took time,: for a route. at Elora Gorge park and ,Saturday: evening,took the kids by ferry' to Centre Island in "Toronto; a ;place where we had"'been ourselves asa it •< child but had never been back, The Toronto population were Making verygood use of the ex- cellent picnic and park facilities On the island,. t * *• Th train trip to. ontreal was . fast, cool and interesting, lt.takes. 'five hours in air conditioned.. coaches and' for those.:of'us Who like, to watch 'people ,'it was an interesting trip. The kids weren't'. bubbling over with excitement 'about their first train trip,• prob ably because they were so.keen on;, getting to• EXPO., "`When will be;: we beat' EXPO?" said five-year- old Susan about ien Minutes after• we had left Toronto. Nancy, who is four, :reacted a little more fav' ourably to the train trip..; t yam;, * * * . . With all the talk about Lodgexpo,; and the criticism it is receiving,: we would .like to say a .good word. Our, accomodatipns:were excellent, We 'stayedin an apartment, clear- ed ,prior lear-ed,prior to EXPO, and; the facilit ies were excellent. We had `lots of room,, a frig and stove, which we made. ood use of and'which•heiped to' reduce our food bills. The . . buildinghad an indoor,swirriming pool which We made use of on three. occasions.. Our children gained much from EXPO and we gained much from having thein share the experience' with us, We will' admit that we went,at their pace and not an, adult pace. We didn't set any records for having our passports stamped in. the pavilions, but•then° perhaps we' saw a,few things and let the others do..the 'racing,and stamping. In anycase,; we were glad, that the children had seen EXPO and we. • were pleased to -have accomplish- ed this without any problems .While hurriedly changing trains an the sulWay,we met the Jim Boyle family who were at EXPO at the same time. Mary, Linda and Lorraine were returning to their lodging after a day on the grounds6. Jim and Lorna had stay- ed at home that day so we'�missed them. Also ran into Lynn and Harley Lashbrook and families, publishers of'theRodney Mercury and 'West Lorne Sun. Took an hour or two to look up G•eorge;Ander= son while`in Montreal. 'George is employed, there with :Ingersoll Rand Ltd. • Spent Sunday,' Monday; Tues day and Wednesday : at . Expo;' .returning to .Toronto ::We' pesda night by train and onto Lucknow by car; We were quite surprised to.find the crowds at 'EXPO the smallest, and the lineups the shortest, :on Sunday.
