District High School at the Spring Formal Dance at the school on Friday evening:.: Doug is the;son:of the late Mr and Mrs. George Alton and Peggy is the daughter of Mr;. and Mrs . Bob MacDonald.. They were crowned by last year's King and Queen, 'Herb Hunter and Wendy MacKenzie,' after Noel Mason, school principal, had ann- ounced the nn-ounced'the results of the•student vote for this award Runners-up for the awards in each case were tied lan MacKenzie and Jamie Ross ,'Joan, MacKenzie. and Marybelle Hunter. Poui schools were sold on Fridaynight and Saturday morning by ;auctioneer Emile 'MacLennan •of Lochalsh ,., The ,,four schools, property and equip, ment grossed close to $4500 Friday night, No. 17, West Wawa - nosh, known as The. Diggins was. • sold to Howard Sproul for $500. Wes Nivins bought the wood furn•- ace for $10 with' the total gross for the'school and equipment' being $605. • The second school to be sold. on Friday night was •Dungannon with. Allan Reed of Lucknow purchasing the building and property for. $800. Allan ; also purchased one. of the oil furnaces•there for' $206 with tie second oilfurnace in the school • selling to Mel Morrison for . $265 The•Dungannon school sale grossed' $1'467.. `. On Saturday Morning,. the No. 9 Ashfield school was; sold to Ash- field Council', building and proper= ty for $700: Council also purchased a :furnace in'the school for '$320. This sale grossed $ll77 including all items. Council have used the school for some time as a meeting place. The location had been :rent ed by council until this time: • • No. 6:School .in Ashfield, located on the 4th concession west of Dun- gannon, was sold•to Howard Cul- bert for $900 with .Howard also,pur- chasing the furnace for $225. This sale grossed $1188•. • . Dan McLeod Passes' Donald (Dan) McLeod , a resident • of £rucelea Haven in Walkerton Wand a former.'resident in Lucknow ifor many years, .died at. Walkerton ' on Friday.,. June 16.
