attempt was made •to operate these
as public washrooms, but some.of.,
the local youth whose chief delight
was in'how much vandalism could
be done' withinthe village;, made
this a very difficult proposition.
Last'week,''and in many week's
gone by , The Sentinel has/been
asked by the visiting public to
Lucknow .why they were not able to.
get into ,these washrooms. Apparent

•erupted .to use' them,,, th• ey are lock
ed, •

Mr.. Purdon, known to everyone`..
as "Sandy" is a son of the late Mr
and Mrs. Robert Purdon and one of
a family of eight.He is the last
surviving member of the family' •
Following, a•horse and'buggy hon-
eymoon trip to'Mitche1l, they
took. up farming on the Purdon. •
homestead on Concession 12 of,
West Wawariosh. Later they estab-
lisped:a hardware store `and `flour:
and feed kiisi ei ss at Whitechurch
which they.operated .until some. 20
years ago;' when they sold the
business and, retired 'to. Lucknow to
:make their home: Fond of
`gardening and horticulture, their
spacious grounds are always neat
